World War II ammunition unearthed, Brighton: Police are urging Brighton residents to be cautious of ammunition which have unearthed near a construction site. A member of the public walking on the tidal flats at Brighton found a quantity of light and heavy machine gun ammunition including tracer rounds believed to be from World War II. During the war there was an air force base located at Brighton in the area of the Brighton Park/Eventide nursing home. The corroded ammunition shells were found yesterday near the Houghton Highway bridge and reported to police. Sandgate police Sergeant John Thomson advised the public that the ammunition is in very poor condition and could be dangerous if picked up or handled incorrectly. Anyone locating similar items is urged not touch or remove the items. If any items are found, contact police on 3364 6464. The items found yesterday will be safely disposed of by the Department of Mines and Energy.
Counterfeit arrest, Brisbane City: A 24-year-old New South Wales man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow after he allegedly used counterfeit notes at a city night club last night. Around 1am staff at Caesars Night Club on Adelaide Street notified police that a patron had allegedly used counterfeit notes to pay for drinks. Police arrived and questioned several people, before the man was arrested. It is alleged that seven fake $50 notes were retrieved. He has been charged with one count each of possess counterfeit, utter counterfeit, tainted property, and contravene requirement.
Robbery, West End: A 23-year-old Salisbury man was robbed last night as he walked in West End just after midnight. The man was walking along Melbourne Street towards Cordelia Street when he was confronted by two men and one woman, who demanded money. When the victim refused, one of the men searched the victim’s pockets and took money from his wallet, his pay packet, and a mobile phone. The trio then also took the complainant’s dinner, which he had with him after finishing work at a local restaurant, and then walked off in the direction of Musgrave Park. The main offender is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 30 years old, 185cm tall, with a proportionate build. He was wearing a red sleeveless t-shirt and black shorts.

Robbery, Narangba: Police are searching for a man who robbed a service station at Narangba this morning. Around 3.30am the man entered the Matilda Service Station at the intersection of Old Gympie and Mackie roads. The man approached the 20-year-old male shop attendant and demanded cigarettes and cash. When the attendant hesitated, the offender placed his hand in his pocket. Fearing the offender could be concealing a weapon, the attendant handed over a sum of cash and the man left the store. The man is described as Caucasian, about 35 years old, with a medium build, and was clean-shaven. He was wearing a black cap and a black tracksuit.
