Afternoon Round-up

Man charged after chase, Kirwan: An 18-year-old man has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, dangerous operation of a vehicle, entering premises to commit an indictable offence, three counts of failure to stop, unlicenced driving, and assault after he was caught running from an alleged stolen vehicle about 1pm yesterday on Lindeman Aveneue, Heatley. Shortly before the man was caught police were following him in the alleged stolen vehicle when the man collided with the rear of another vehicle on Charles Street. The stolen vehicle sustained severe impact damage to the near side front end but continued to Bainbridge Street where the stolen vehicle collided with the gutter and stopped. The man will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.

Serious crash, Clontarf: A 36-year-old Kippa-Ring woman has been transported to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious injuries following a crash at Clontarf this morning. Around 8am the woman was a passenger in a car involved in a collision with a second vehicle at the intersection of Anzac and Oxley avenues. Initial investigations suggest the car the woman was in, driven by a 17-year-old Kippa-Ring man, crossed into the path of the second vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old Deception Bay woman. Inquiries are continuing. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Redcliffe hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Cars into shops, Nambour: Police attended two separate incidents this morning in Nambour where cars drove into shops. The first incident occurred at the Credit Union Australia business at the Nambour Central Shopping Centre on Howard Street. About 9.30am a 78-year-old woman was parking her vehicle when it accelerated forward onto the footpath, hitting a bench on which two women—aged 75 and 45—were sitting. The car then continued through the glass doors of the Credit Union, hitting a 49-year-old female employee. All four women were treated for various injuries and transported to Nambour General Hospital. The second incident occurred about 11.30am when a 39-year-old woman reversed her car through the front of a noodle store on Currie Street. A 53-year-old woman in the store was injured by falling debris as a result, and was transported to Nambour Hospital. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating both incidents.
