Speeding in Logan District

More than 300 people have been detected speeding by Logan District police in recent days with one motorist detected travelling at 177km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Police were further astounded when they discovered the 19-year-old male driver only held a provisional drivers license.

Senior Sergeant John Brough from the Logan Traffic Branch said motorists had been caught speeding during routine traffic operations in the past week.

“Police are disappointed by the high number of people detected speeding during the past seven days across the Logan district.

“Tragically 12 people have lost their lives on Logan roads so far in 2008,” Senior Sergeant Brough said.

Police are appealing to drivers to slow down and comply with the signed speed limits.

Speeding offences and other traffic offences will continue to be targeted by both operational and covert operations by the Traffic Branch to reduce the incidents of road trauma on our roads.
