Serious assault - Mooloolaba; Injury to off duty officer - Brisbane; Serious crash - Morayfield

Serious assault, Mooloolaba: A 32-year-old Buderim man received head injuries last night after he was assaulted in Mooloolaba. About 3.30am the man descended a flight of stairs into a basement carpark off Venning Street when he was attacked by a group of males. The victim managed to climb back up the stairs where the manager of a pub noticed his injuries and contacted police and ambulance officers. The man was taken to the Nambour General Hospital for treatment to bruising and abrasions to his face.

Injury to off duty police officer, Brisbane: Police have charged a 43-year-old Agnes Waters man after an off duty police officer attempted to intervene in an assault at Mountjoy Terrace last night. Around 11.30pm the officer completed a shift at the Caxton Street Seafood Festival and was riding his motorcycle home along Petrie Terrace, near the intersection of Mountjoy Terrace when he noticed a domestic dispute occurring in a bus shelter. He stopped to render assistance when a man walking past the area has allegedly attempted to steal his motor bike. The man allegedly threw the officer’s helmet at him, striking him in the face before a scuffle occurred. Police attended and assisted the off-duty officer, and the man has been charged with one count each of common assault and obstruct police. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 25.

Serious crash, Morayfield: An 18-year-old woman has been airlifted to Brisbane in a serious condition following a crash at Morayfield this morning. The incident occurred about 7 o’clock and initial investigations reveal that a sedan collided with the rear of a utility on Morayfield Road at the intersection with William Berry Drive. The male driver of the utility was taken to Caboolture hospital but was later released. The 18-year-old female driver of the sedan sustained neck and back injuries and a broken nose and was also taken to Caboolture hospital. The 18-year-old female passenger is currently in the Royal Brisbane Hospital with serious injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
