Morning Round-up

Extortion, Townsville:  A woman and a boy have been charged following an alleged incident in Townsville.  It will be alleged that on the evening of December 30 the pair took a vehicle belonging to a North Ward man.  It will be alleged that calls were made indicating that the location of the vehicle would be divulged on payment of money or else the vehicle would be destroyed.  A 17-year-old West End woman has been charged with extortion and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is to appear at the Townsville Magistrates Court today.  A 14-year-old boy is to be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 1992.

Public nuisance charge, Fortitude Valley:  A 29 year-old Norman Park man has been arrested and charged with public nuisance and obstruct police in relation to an alleged incident on Ann and Brunswick Streets in the Fortitude Valley around 4.30am.  It is alleged the man was walking along the road with a group of males when police directed him off of the roadway.  The man allegedly refused to comply becoming verbally aggressive towards police.  He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrate’s court on January 18.
