Doorknock for missing teenager – Coolum: Police are still attempting to locate a 15-year-old boy who went missing at about 3:15pm yesterday on his way home from work at a McDonalds Restaurant in Coolum. They will carry out an extensive doorknock this morning from 6:00am seeking witnesses along a two kilometer route normally taken by the missing youth. Matthew William Cross was last seen walking west on Elizabeth Street near the intersection with Perry Street. He is described as 178cm tall, of medium build with a fair complexion and blond hair dyed brown. He was last seen wearing a beige t-shirt top over his McDonald’s work uniform.

Fatal rail crossing crash – Toowoomba: The police accident investigation squad has attended a fatal car crash at a railway crossing on the Toowoomba-Carrara Road, Finnie overnight. Police were alerted by a motorist that a car had collided with a train at the crossing at about 11:25pm. Emergency services confirmed that the vehicle’s only occupant, a 38-year-old Toowoomba man had been killed. Reports from witnesses say that red flashing lights at the crossing were operating at the time.

Three charged over robbery – Cannon Hill: Police have charged three males, aged 14, 15 and 16 years with robbery with violence and assault occasioning bodily harm following an incident at Corporate Drive, Cannon Hill at about 6:00 pm yesterday. It’s alleged they approached three other males, two aged 16 and one 17, assaulting them and robbing them of cash and a mobile phone. One victim was transported to the Mater Private Hospital for treatment of minor injuries to his face and ribs. Police located three suspects at the Cannon Hill railway station. The charged juveniles were taken to a youth detention centre pending court appearances.

Police are appealing to witnesses who may be able to assist with investigations into a traffic accident that claimed the life of a 29-year-old motorcycle rider at Woolloongabba yesterday morning.

Girl rescued after bridge fall - Brisbane: A 15-year-old girl has escaped serious injury after falling from the Goodwill Bridge, Brisbane shortly after 10:30 last night. It’s believed the girl was sitting on a railing with a friend when she fell backwards, landing on a concrete island supporting one of the bridge pylons. Water Police attended along with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service who winched the girl in a stretcher back onto the bridge where she was treated by ambulance paramedics. She was transported to the Mater Children’s Hospital for treatment of a suspected fractured jaw and rib injuries.

Police suspect two men behind crime spree - Darra
Police investigating a series of bag snatches and assault and robberies in Brisbane’s inner West believe they may have been committed by two offenders working together.

In the most recent incident, on October 19 about 8:00pm, a 38-year-old woman had her bag snatched from her shoulder as she was standing behind her vehicle at the Lake Centre car park on Forest Lake Boulevard.

The offender, described as being of Islander appearance, ran to a white utility containing a second person.

A day earlier, October 18, about 7:00 pm a 56-year-old woman had her bag snatched from a trolley she was pushing through the Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre car park.

The offender left in a white Holden Rodeo utility being driven by a second person.

About 6:45pm a 33-year-old woman had a purse snatched from her hand as she was loading groceries into her car at the Monier Shopping Complex, Monier Road at Darra.

The offender fled in a white Holden Rodeo dual cab being driven by a Caucasian male.

Shortly before that on the same day, a 26-year-old restaurant worker was bashed and robbed in a toilet block behind a Vietnamese restaurant in Darra.

He described his attacker as being of Islander appearance and of solid build.

There have been two other similar attacks in the area – on October 13, a 47-year-old woman was punched to the ground and had her handbag stolen in an alleyway at Darra.

On October 14, a 36-year-old chef was punched to the ground and repeatedly bashed by an assailant in a toilet block on Station Road, Darra.

Police on the Sunshine Coast have found the incident at Cooroy yesterday was not an attempted abduction.

Police are investigating a fatal traffic incident at Woolloongabba this morning that claimed the life a 29-year-old man.

Robbery with violence, Booval: Police at Ipswich are still seeking an offender who robbed an attendant at the United Fuels service station, Brisbane Road early this morning. The attendant told police he left the office for a short while and was grabbed by a male offender as he returned at about 1:00am. He was forced to hand over a quantity of cash and cigarettes. Two security guards at a nearby car yard witnessed the incident and detained a 16-year-old youth who is now being questioned by police. A second offender who fled the scene is still being sought.

A man suffered neck and head injuries after the vehicle he was driving and a horse collided on the Warrego Highway at Charleton last night.

The body of an unidentified female possibly from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) vessel missing off Torres Strait since October 14 has been located in Indonesian waters.

Police are investigating a complaint made by an 11-year-old girl that a man attempted to entice her into a car as she was walking to school this morning at 8.15am.

Police are investigating the alleged stabbing of a 39-year-old man at a house at Pacific Pines this morning, Wednesday 26 October 2005.

House destroyed by fire, Bellenden Ker - Break and enter, Bracken Ridge High School - Car kills horse, Charlton
House destroyed by fire, Bellenden Ker: A timber house on the Bruce Highway at Belleden Ker has been completely destroyed by fire overnight. About 5.30pm Queensland Fire and Rescue Service officers were called to extinguish the fire. The house was being renovated at the time. No-one was injured in the blaze. Police believe the fire was not deliberately lit. Scientific officers are investigating the cause of the fire.

Attempted abduction, Strathpine: Police are investigating a complaint made by a 10-year-old boy that two men attempted to entice him into a car as he was walking home from school yesterday afternoon. The boy has told police he was walking along Bells Pocket Road about 3:00pm when a vehicle similar to a 90’s model Nissan Navara dual cab utility pulled up beside him. He said a male passenger told him to get in the car saying his mother had rung them and told them to pick him up. The boy has refused and the vehicle has driven off. He described the passenger as being in his early 30’s with tanned skin, dark brown shaved short hair and a goatee. The driver was described as being of Caucasian appearance also in his early 30’s with short-cropped blond hair and fair complexion. He said the vehicle was cream-coloured with electrical cable and a tool box in the tray.

Armed robbery, Browns Plains: Police are investigating an armed robbery at the Civic Video store on Wembley Road, Browns Plains overnight. About 7.40pm two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a knife demanded money and cigarettes from the attendant. The men left the store with a small sum of money and cigarettes. One of the men was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 17 to 20 years of age, 180cm tall, with a slim build and was wearing long black pants, a beige collared t-shirt, black balaclava and was carrying a knife. The second man was described as being of Caucasian appearance, 14 to 16 years of age, with a slim build and blond hair. He was wearing a red polo shirt with black and white racing checks on the collar, black knee-length shorts, and a light blue balaclava and was carrying a tyre lever.

Search for missing vessel called off, Torres Strait
The search in the Torres Strait for a missing Immigration Department vessel carrying five people was called off at 3.00pm today.

The six-metre aluminum vessel was on its way from Saibai Island to Badu Island on Friday, October 14 when it became lost in thick fog. The vessel’s EPIRB was activated and contact was made via a satellite phone and a new course heading was provided.

Boating fatality, Magnetic Island, Townsville: A 22-year-old English tourist has died after a boating accident at Horseshoe Bay on the eastern side of Magnetic Island. At 10pm last night the deceased woman and a man were in a rubber dinghy, heading to shore from a motor yacht moored in the bay, when both fell overboard. It appears the boat has struck the deceased on the head and she’s died instantly. Police are investigating.

Ashley James Haxton was last seen at his residence in Mt Gravatt East at 3pm yesterday afternoon by his carer. Mr Haxton also suffers from Epilepsy and does not have his medication. Armed robbery, Holland Park: At 4.30 yesterday afternoon a man entered the Holland Park East TAB on Seville Road, Holland Park and demanded money from the cashier. The female cashier handed a sum of money over to the man, who then left the building. The man got into a stolen purple Hyundai Excel and drove off along Rowton Street. It appears no weapon was used in the robbery. The offender is described as 185cms tall, slim build, fair complexion, wearing dark long pants and dark jacket with elastic wrists, cream dirty garden gloves and a blue cap with black flap. He also wore a dark white and checkered scarf around his face. Investigations are continuing.

Serious accident south of Rockhampton: Five people were injured when their mini bus collided with a truck in Emu Park, south of Rockhampton yesterday. Initial inquiries indicate that about 6.30pm a truck did a u turn at the intersection of Emu Park and Keppel Sands Roads into the path of the oncoming mini bus carrying six people. Five of the passengers, including the driver, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver suffered leg injuries after being trapped in the wreckage. His injuries are not considered life threatening. The sixth person in the mini bus and the driver of the truck were not injured. Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Patrick William Manning is described as Caucasian, 190cm tall, 96 kilograms with a fair complexion, long grey hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a blue jacket, black fleecy pants, red and white thongs and was carrying a plastic shopping bag. Double fatal traffic accident, Yarraman: A 37-year-old Blackbutt man is in a stable condition in Toowoomba Base Hospital following a single vehicle accident near Yarraman yesterday which claimed the lives of the 39-year-old male driver and his 17-year-old son. The three were travelling along the D’Aguilar Highway between Yarraman and Blackbutt around 3.00pm when their Holden Commodore left the road and hit a tree. The vehicle was engulfed in flames upon impact. The bodies of the two deceased have been conveyed to the John Tonge Centre. The passenger was initially airlifted to Kingaroy Hospital in a serious condition and later transferred to Toowoomba. Preliminary investigations indicate high speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident.

The female attendant handed over a sum of money before the offender left on foot via the front entrance and headed along Napier Street towards Birkdale train station. The store attendant was not injured, but received counselling. The offender is described as Caucasian, aged in his late 20s, approximately 180cms tall, of solid build with blue eyes and blond hair in a short-blade crew cut. He was wearing a black shirt with a white stripe down the arms and knee-length bone-coloured shorts.

Around 9.50pm a man entered the store on Lutwyche Road and demanded money be put into a bag. The two attendants put a sum of money into a bag and handed it to the man who left the store on foot. The staff did not see a weapon but believed the man was holding a gun in his right hand which was covered with a blue jumper. The man is described as between 30 and 36, with a slim build, fair complexion, approximately 175cm tall with patchy stubble on his face and dirty, brown straight hair. When last seen the man was wearing dark coloured jeans, a white shirt, boots and what appeared to be prescription glasses. He had a blue jumper wrapped around his right hand.

Amelia Mycock, 15, was last seen at the hospital between 7.00am and 9.30am today where she is receiving treatment for an eating disorder. Police are concerned about Amelia’s safety and welfare as she requires ongoing medical treatment.

About 6.20am police were advised that a single vehicle traffic incident occurred on the Dawson Highway, about 13 kilometres south of Springsure. Police attended the scene and found that a Toyota utility had rolled over and the sole male occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

About 3.20am two 18-year-old men were walking on Hamilton Street towards the Booval McDonalds on Brisbane Road when two men approached them and asked them for cigarettes, money and mobile phones. One man then produced a small knife and threatened one of the victims. The two 18-year-old men then continued to walk towards McDonalds where the offenders then left and headed along Brisbane Road towards Ipswich.

Sexual assault Innisfail, arrest: A 34-year-old man will appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court today charged with enter with intent, rape, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and taking a child for immoral purpose. The arrest follows investigations into a complaint that a man entered the bedroom of an Innisfail home around 2.30am yesterday and sexually assaulted a seven-year-old female.
