Attempted robbery, Inala: Two men attempted to rob the Freedom Fuel Service Station on Rudd Street this morning only to be met by a gutsy store attendant who put a fight. At 1.30 two men entered the service station, threatened and kicked the attendant, then demanded money. One of the offenders was wearing a clown mask and was armed with a machete, whilst the other was wearing a bandana and carrying a ratchet. The attendant told the intruders he was unable to open the till and when they continued to threaten him he produced a metal bar from under the counter and threatened them right back. The two men then left the store and were last seen running towards Freeman Road. The man that wore a bandana is of Asian appearance and was wearing a blue jumper, and the offender with the clown mask was wearing black clothing.

Police have arrested four teenagers on over 130 charges following a spate of property and wilful damage offences committed on businesses on Ipswich Road, Moorooka last Friday.

Assault of a woman, Albany Creek - Break and enter, Strathpine
Assault of a woman, Albany Creek: Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault of a 30-year-old woman at the Albany Creek Hotel by a number of people on January 28. The woman suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital, but has since been released. The victim became involved in an altercation with another woman and others about 1.30am. When the hotel closed, the 30-year-old was assaulted again and knocked to the ground outside the premises. Another woman came to the victim’s aid and was also assaulted before the offenders left.

Police believe two men are responsible for eight robberies of ticket vending machines at railway stations from Virginia to Narangba this month.

Tactical Crime Squad officers from Toowoomba have arrested 11 people on 87 charges after the location of nearly 218 grams of amphetamine and iodine crystals.

Break and enter, Burpengary: Police are looking for four people who broke into the Burpengary Tavern on Old Bay Road and stole a quantity of alcohol. At 12am today police arrived at the Tavern and identified a stolen gold coloured Mitsubishi sedan parked at the roller door of the tavern bottle shop. There was one person inside the vehicle when police arrived. The driver sped around to the side of the building and picked up three others who had r5L:un out from inside the bottle shop. Police pursued the vehicle along Old Gympie Road and the Gateway Arterial, before the pursuit had to be called off due to the high speed at which the offenders were traveling.

Police are appealing for public assistance to help locate a 66-year-old man last seen in Allora.

Summary of events/charges - Rockhampton shooting: Five men will appear in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court charged with various offences relating to several shootings on January 26. It is alleged a group of people drove past a group of people in a park and shot at four people. No-one was hit.  It is alleged that the group then shot at two girls in Alexandra Street, striking a 15-year-old girl in the back, before going on to shoot at an unidentified child on a bike. Then at 4.20am shots were fired at the 13-year-old boy standing in Richardson Road. He was struck in his lower back. On January 27 police arrested a 17-year-old man and charged him with one count of unlawful wounding, committing acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of tainted property and weapon related offences including dangerous conduct with a firearm, discharging a firearm in public, and going armed in public so as to cause fear. He was remanded in custody to reappear on April 3. Four other men, all aged 17, were identified and charged with unlawful wounding, committing acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and firearm offences. The men will appear the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Tuesday where charges will be laid in relation to the shooting of the 15-year-old girl.

Serious traffic accident, Carina: Police are appealing to witnesses to assist their investigation of a serious accident on Creek Road, Carina. At 7.45 last night it appears a red Nissan Exa was traveling north on Creek Road when it collided with silver Mitsubishi Magna at the Narracot Street intersection. The Nissan then collided with a Holden Commodore. It is believed that a fourth car, a white sedan, similar to a Ford Laser, was present at the time of the accident. Police are appealing to the people travelling in that car to contact them in order to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident. One of the three people in the Nissan suffered serious leg injuries and lacerations, whilst a lady, who was the only occupant of the Magna, has chest injuries. Anyone who may have witnessed this accident or seen any of these vehicles prior to this event is urged to contact Brisbane Accident Investigation Squad on 3364 3311 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Drug arrest, Gympie - Fatal traffic incident, Rockhampton
Drug arrest, Gympie: A 46-year-old Gympie woman has been charged following the alleged location of drugs and equipment at a Gympie address this morning. Just before 7am, police executed a search warrant on a Shaw Street address and allegedly located drugs and equipment used in the production of drugs. The woman was charged with one count each of produce dangerous drug, possess dangerous drug, possess utensil and possess things used in commission of a crime. She will appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on February 20.

Search for missing man, Winton
Police are searching for a 76-year-old opal miner, Paule Laba who was last seen on November 4, 2005 in the Winton area.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bob Atkinson, said he was concerned that inaccurate reports were being released in relation to a 38-year-old woman driver who was involved in an incident with police at Collingwood Park State School on Wednesday.

2003 Ferny Grove wilful exposure arrest: Police yesterday arrested a 20-year-old man for 18 incidents of allegedly exposing himself to women and children in the Ferny Grove area in 2003. Police received 18 complaints from women and children over a period of several months in 2003. A DNA sample was taken of bodily fluid left at the scene of one alleged offence. It was compared with a databank of DNA information held nationally and police were provided with the identity of the 20-year-old man.  The man will appear in the Mt Isa Magistrates Court on February 6 charged with 13 counts of committing an indecent act and five counts of indecent treatment of children by exposing himself.

Missing woman, Brisbane: Police are currently looking for Cathryn Kennedy, who was reported missing by her family yesterday afternoon. The 20-year-old woman was last seen at Eagle Street Pier on Wednesday morning, about 5am. It is believed she may have been heading towards the Casino.

Violent disturbance, Mount Ommaney - Fire, Kelvin Grove - Robbery, Nambour - Man rescued, Finchhatton Gorge
Violent disturbance, Mount Ommaney: Police are searching for five men responsible for bashing a man outside a KFC store in Mount Ommaney. About 11.15pm yesterday the five men entered the store armed with baseball bats. They threatened staff and customers before chasing a man outside where they hit him around the head repeatedly with the bats. The five offenders then got into a vehicle and drove off. The 38-year-old man is in a stable condition at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Charges – Body of a woman located, Macgregor: Tonight Police have charged a 29-year-old man with murder in relation to the death of a woman in Macgregor. This follows the body of a 24-year-old woman being found just before 7:30am this morning in a house in Angelina Street. It is expected the man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Robbery with violence, South Brisbane:  A 20-year-old man was robbed as he walked along Cordelia Street, South Brisbane at 12.45pm yesterday. Two men approached the man and demanded money. One of the offenders appeared to be carrying a firearm. The man then gave the offenders his backpack and they ran away. The backpack contained money the man had raised for Epilepsy Queensland over the past two weeks. Both offenders were described as being of Caucasian appearance and between 25 and 30 years old. The first offender is believed to be 180cm tall, of proportionate build, with tanned skin and black hair. He was wearing black sneakers, a beige t-shirt, and dark three-quarter length shorts. The second offender was described as being 170cm tall, of slim build with fair hair and dark brown stubble. He was wearing dark sneakers, a blue t-shirt and light blue denim jeans.

Armed robbery, Browns Plains: Police are investigating the armed robbery of the Civic Video store on Wembley Road, Browns Plains last night. It is believed that a man entered the store with a scarf over his face, threatened the female attendant with a pair of scissors and demanded money. The attendant complied and gave him a sum of money in a money bag. The offender put the money bag containing the cash inside a shopping bag before leaving the store. The offender is described as being 168cm tall, of slim build and olive complexion. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark coloured beanie, blue bandanna or scarf, white singlet, white shirt, black pants and white sneakers.

Five people have been arrested for the assault of a man in South Bank Parklands last night.

USS Ronald Reagan – traffic advice
Police wish to advise motorists attempting to get a closer view of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan that there are no vantage points available to sightseers on Fisherman Islands.
 
For security reasons the Port of Brisbane will be restricted to essential vehicle movements only. There will be a no-stopping enforcement on Port of Brisbane Drive and offending vehicles will be towed.
 
Police are encouraging motorists to keep away from the area to avoid traffic congestion and there will be a high police presence to ensure vehicles are complying with restrictions.
 
Private boat operators are also reminded that the port channel will be closed to all shipping movements during the warship’s arrival.

Assault, South Brisbane: Police are investigating the assault of a man at South Brisbane in the early hours of this morning. Around 12:30am security guards were escorting three males and one female from the parklands. It is believed during this process one of the males produced a knife, threatened and attempted to assault the security guards. A 26-year-old man saw what was taking place and intervened. Initial reports indicate that during an altercation with one of the offenders the man received a slash wound to his back. The man was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment but was later released.

Arrest – Loganlea - Armed Robbery - Kuraby
Arrest – Loganlea: Yesterday afternoon Police arrested and charged three men as a result of investigations into the break and enter of a residence in Rochedale on Tuesday, January 17. Two men from Loganlea aged 18 and 20 and a 19-year-old man from The Gap are due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates court today. Each offender was charged with two counts each of deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of produce a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of anything used in the commission of a crime. The men also received an additional charge of enter dwelling, the 18-year-old charged with one count of enter dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, the 19-year-old with one count of enter dwelling at night used violence in company and the 20-year-old with one count of enter dwelling at night used personal violence.

Police at Mareeba have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a 44-year-old Melbourne woman who visited the region late last year but failed to catch a return flight earlier this week.

School vandalism – Gulliver, Aitkenvale: Police are investigating two separate vandalism attacks on Townsville schools overnight. In one attack three windows were smashed in a music room at Pimlico High School, Fulham Road, Gulliver overnight. Vandals have also caused graffiti damage to the Aitkenvale Special School. No offenders have apprehended in relation to either incident.

Armed robbery at sports club – Upper Mt Gravatt:  Police are hunting for three men who robbed the Southern Cross Sports Club on the corner of Klumpp and Logan Roads, Upper Mt Gravatt last night. The men used pieces of timber to smash through a front glass door to the premises about 11pm shortly after closing. They ordered three staff members onto the floor before taking a large sum of cash. They exited through the smashed door and were not seen further. Noone was hurt during the incident. The offenders were described being of Caucasian appearance, in their late teens and had hoods or items of clothing over their heads during the robbery.

Search for missing men – Gayndah: Water Police are expected to arrive at Gayndah, west of Bundaberg this morning to assist in the search for two men, aged 25 and 34, missing after boating mishap at the Claude Wharton Weir on the Burnett River at about 10pm last night. A runabout with an outboard motor was found on the weir after the alarm was raised by a third man, 29, who had been with the boating party. Police, QAS, QFRS and SES attended the scene, lighting the area and using a search and rescue boat. All three men are believed to be locals.

Shooting - Broadbeach:  Police are investigating the shooting of a man outside a nightclub at Main Place, Broadbeach early this morning. They attended the address shortly before 2am but were unable to locate either an offender or complainant. They were then advised that the victim had attended the Gold Coast Hospital about 2:20am. Detectives are now speaking to the man who is believed to have suffered wounds to his arm and stomach caused by a single shot. His condition is described as stable. Police are endeavouring to gain a description of the alleged gunman from witnesses at the scene.

Attempted murder – Greenslopes: A 29-year-old man has been charged in relation to an alleged attack on a 54-year-old man at an address in Primmer Street, Greenslopes about 10pm yesterday. The alleged victim suffered a fractured rib and punctured lung in the incident and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. A man was taken to the Brisbane City Watchhouse and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm.

Spate of collisions: Police are urging motorists to exercise caution following a series of eight separate road crashes in the twin cities since yesterday morning. The first accident was reported at 8:15am January 12, in Railway Estate followed by collisions in Aitkenvale, Magnetic Island, Currajong, Vincent and Garbutt. Minor injuries were reported in two collisions with a 47-year-old woman being freed from one vehicle on Railway Avenue by QFRS officers using cutting equipment.

Search for missing bushwalkers to resume, Mount Barney: The search for two men missing while bushwalking in Mount Barney National Park on Sunday, January 8 will re-commence this morning. The search, involving police, State Emergency Service (SES) personnel and the Careflight helicopter was called off yesterday due to poor light and will resume at 6.30 this morning. An SES presence was maintained at Yellow Pinch carpark overnight in case the walkers emerged. The alarm was raised late Sunday afternoon when the men, aged in their 30’s, failed to re-unite with two other members of their walking group. The group had been attempting to climb to the east peak of Mount Barney when they became separated. A man and woman turned around and made their way back to the carpark after it began to rain. The two missing men continued on.
