A balaclava-clad man wielding a knife and a pink umbrella attempted to rob the Commonwealth Bank at Virginia just before 6 o’clock this evening.

Disaster Operations Update – Cairns and Innisfail Districts
The Cairns District Disaster Coordination Centre (DDCC) ceased operations on March 24. The main focus of recovery has moved to the Innisfail and Mareeba Disaster Districts.

Driver charged, Inala: A 48-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to remain at the scene of an accident after two children were struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing at Inala yesterday afternoon. The boy aged six and his 4-year-old sister, were crossing the road with their mother at the intersection of Serviceton Avenue and Hyacinth Street about 3.20pm. They were treated at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for minor injuries. A man from Durack has been issued a notice to appear at Richlands Magistrates Court in three weeks.

Rape arrest, Brisbane: Police have charged a man over two sexual assaults which occurred several years apart in Rockhampton. One woman was raped at knife-point in North Rockhampton in January 1999. A second woman was raped at knife-point at Kawana in March, 2002. Police arrested a suspect in the Brisbane suburb of Mackenzie yesterday. A 30-year-old man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today on charges including two counts of rape and two counts of deprivation of liberty.

Suspicious death – Windsor: Police have established a crime scene at Horace Street, Windsor following the discovery of a man’s body in a laneway late yesterday. Police were called to the address about 9:15pm by a tow-truck driver who found the body while he was delivering a vehicle to a car yard located on the street. It appears the deceased male has suffered severe head injuries. It is not known how long he has been there. A major incident room has been set up at Hendra CIB.

Armed robbery, Alexandra Hills - Kuranda range open
Armed robbery, Alexandra Hills: Police are investigating the robbery of a man and woman at Alexandra Hills yesterday morning. About 3am, a man and woman, both aged 18 were walking along McDonald Road towards McMillan Road when a man crossed the road and approached them from behind. The man threatened the two with a sharpened stick and demanded they give him property. The two handed over money and a mobile phone before they ran towards an approaching car which failed to stop. As they did so, the offender fled into bushland. The victims then hid as the offender returned from bushland with five other men. The offender is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 168 cm, blonde hair, fair complexion with a fat build. He was wearing jeans, sneakers and a black t-shirt covering the lower part of his face.

Shooting – stabbing, Gold Coast: Police are continuing investigations into a brawl about 10:40pm yesterday among spectators at a boxing event at the Royal Pines Resort, Benowa in which a number of people were either shot or stabbed. One man suffered gunshot wounds to the head and back, another man suffered gunshot and knife wounds, two more men suffered stab wounds and a fifth man, thought to be a bystander was shot in the foot. All those injured are now at the Gold Coast Hospital where it is understood their conditions are not life-threatening. Police have not yet located a firearm or identified all suspects involved in the disturbance. A major incident room has been set up at Surfers Paradise Police Station. Police are asking witnesses to contact the Gold Coast CIB.

Police have released a comfit of a man believed to be involved in the robbery of a male pizza delivery driver at Runaway Bay last night.

Police are investigating a fatal traffic incident at Bowen a short time ago that has claimed the life of a 45-year-old man.

Attempted robbery charges, Runcorn
A 21-year-old man has been charged with two counts of attempted robbery and two counts of serious assault following an incident in Runcorn this morning.

Pizza delivery driver robbed – Runaway Bay
Pizza delivery driver robbed – Runaway Bay: An 18-year-old pizza delivery driver had his car and takings stolen while making a delivery to Runaway Bay last night. The driver told police he had pulled over on Bayview Street about 8:40pm when a male person and a female have demanded a ride. Once in the car they asked to be taken to Coombabah. The driver made a further pizza delivery after which the male passenger has produced a knife and demanded his takings and the car keys. He was forced into the rear of the car by the man who then drove to Jabiru Park, Hope Island where he proceeded to do burnouts and collided with a gutter and a tree. The pizza delivery driver fled on foot as the man was attempting to set the car alight. The two-door Hyundai Getz was extensively damaged. Police are looking for a male described as 40 to 50 years of age, Caucasian with a tanned complexion and short brown hair. The woman was about 18 years of age also of Caucasian appearance, 160cm tall with dyed orange or red hair.

Human remains located near airport - Armed robbery arrest, Bellbird Park
Human remains located near airport:  A human skull was discovered in bushland this afternoon near the airport. Private contractors made the discovery shortly before 4pm while searching for fire ants off Banksia Drive. The area was declared a crime scene and will be guarded overnight. Scenes of Crime officers will attend tomorrow morning. The skull will then be taken to the JTC for forensic analysis.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with one count of arson following a fire on Mahony Road via Millaa Millaa this morning.

Suspicious fire, Atherton - Hydroponic arrests, Albany Creek - Pursuit, Bruce Highway - Pursuit utility located, Regents Park - Robbery with violence, Coopers Plains - Serious assault arrest, Browns Plains
Suspicious fire, Atherton: A 61-year-old woman was taken in a critical condition to Atherton Hospital following a house fire at Tolga, near Atherton yesterday evening. Firefighters were called to the Willow Road address at 8pm where a fire had broken out in a bedroom. They located an unconscious woman suffering from smoke inhalation and serious burns. The fire is being treated as suspicious and a crime scene has been established pending further examination of the building this morning. The woman was expected to be airlifted to Townsville Hospital early this morning. 
 
Hydroponic arrests, Albany Creek: Police called on Energex workers to disconnect unauthorized electrical work supplying a hydroponic system at an Albany Creek address yesterday. They located a room set up with a growing system including lights, exhaust fans and pumps during a search of a house at Windermere Court about 5pm. A small quantity of cannabis and some cash was also found. A 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have been charged with numerous offences including production and possession of a dangerous drug. They were bailed to appear at Petrie Magistrates Court on April 20.

Police are investigating the sexual assault of a girl by a man who broke into a Toowoomba home overnight.

A 50-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been charged in relation to the location of a drug laboratory at Pinkenba today.

Police are investigating a card skimming scam after they received a number of complaints from customers who had been fleeced of money from their bank accounts.

Man charged over injury to child, Goodna - Attempted murder, Emerald - Drug charges, Taringa
Man charged over injury to child, Goodna: Juvenile Aid Bureau police at Goodna have charged a man with assault occasioning bodily harm and grievous bodily harm following investigations into serious injuries suffered by a four year old girl yesterday. The child was taken to Ipswich Hospital after being found unconscious by the mother and then rushed to the Mater Children’s Hospital for urgent surgery for a suspected head injury. The charged man remains in custody pending an appearance at Ipswich Court this morning. The child’s condition is critical.

Car into house, Carina - Suspicious fire, Mount Isa - Charges following robbery, Black River - Armed robbery, Greenbank - Armed robbery, Inala
Car into house, Carina: A 27-year-old Carina Heights man is expected to be charged with dangerous driving, drink driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident after a car ran into a house on Vickers Street, Carina last night. The Toyota sedan went through a T intersection causing major damage to the house at about 10:30pm. The alleged driver was later located by police at another address and is expected to be further interviewed in the near future.
  
Suspicious fire, Mount Isa: A fire in a wheelie bin forced the closure and evacuation of a city block within Mount Isa’s CBD overnight. The fire was quickly extinguished about 6pm. When a gas bottle was discovered in the bin a decision was taken to close an area bounded by West Street, Rodeo Drive, Miles Street and Grace Street. It is anticipated the area will remain closed for most of the day until firefighters determine it is safe to approach the gas bottle.

Fatal road crash, Currumbin Waters: A 31-year-old Currumbin Waters woman died in a car crash at Galleon Way, Currumbin Waters, last night. The woman was driving a Mazda sedan which ran out of control and rolled several times after clipping a second vehicle about 6:00pm. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A four-year-old girl, also in the vehicle was unhurt. The Accident Investigation Squad is continuing enquiries.

Sexual assault arrest, Beenleigh: A female school teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student. The 25-year-old woman was charged with 93 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 and remanded in custody to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today. The alleged offences took place over a two-year period and involved a now 16-year-old student at the school where the woman worked.

Attempted abduction, New Farm: Around 10.30 last night a 22-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle which was parked along Barker Street at New Farm when a man asked for directions through the window of a green Holden Commodore. As the woman approached his car, he got out of the driver’s seat and grabbed her, attempting to pull her into the vehicle. The woman fought him off and ran to her car before driving away. She was not injured during the attack. The man is described as Caucasian, 186cm, of proportionate build with a fair complexion, dark hair and a gap in his front teeth. He was wearing dark blue jeans with rips and a black T-shirt. His car is believed to be a 2000 model Commodore with a body kit.

Armed robbery, Bracken Ridge:  Two men armed with guns robbed the Food Works store on Barrett St, Bracken Ridge a short time ago. At 7.30 tonight the men entered the store and threatened the female attendant. They took a sum of cash before fleeing the store and getting into a red Holden Commodore that was being driven by a third man.  The two men that entered the store are described as being aged in their teens and were both wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

Two men have been conjointly charged with murder after a 22-year-old man was bashed outside the Sundowner Hotel overnight.

Arrest, Brisbane: A 37-year-old Victorian man will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, serious assault, public nuisance and two charges of wilful damage.  The arrest follows an incident outside the Caxton Hotel around 3.40 this morning when police patrolling Caxton Street witnessed a man allegedly throwing wheelie bins on the roadway.  Police approached the man who allegedly became extremely aggressive and abusive towards the officers.  The officers warned the man before deploying OC spray which had little affect in subduing him.  The man is alleged to have kicked one of the police officers in the face knocking him to the ground where he continued to punch the officer.  The man was eventually subdued with the assistance of security personnel.  The male officer was transported to hospital where he was treated for cuts to his face, inside his mouth and bruising to his legs.

Triple fatality train incident, Goodna: Police are continuing their investigation into the death of three children after they were struck by a train around 6.45pm yesterday. Two brothers, aged eight and ten years from Mount Gravatt East, and a nine-year-old boy from Carole Park died when a passenger train headed from Ipswich to Brisbane struck the children on tracks almost halfway between the Goodna and Redbank stations.

Charges after drug raid, Arundel: About 6pm yesterday, police acting on information supplied to Crime Stoppers attended a residence on Fitzalan Circuit, Arundel and seized a significant amount of cannabis, ecstasy and cash. Three men have been charged in relation to the incident. A 20-year-old Arundel man has been charged with three counts of trafficking of a dangerous drug, possession of things used in connection with supply of a dangerous drug and possession of tainted property. He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today. A 25-year-old Arundel man will also appear today charged with trafficking of a dangerous drug. A 23-year-old Gaven man has been charged with supply of a dangerous drug and possession of things used in connection with supply of a dangerous drug. He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates on March 23.

Double shooting, Bundaberg: Police were called to a residence in Duncraigen Street, Bundaberg about 10pm last night after a double shooting that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured. The 63-year-old woman suffered a gun shot wound to the face and was transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital. She is in a serious but stable condition and is expected to be transferred to Royal Brisbane Hospital for further surgery. The deceased man has yet to be formally identified and is believed to have been a boarder at the residence.

UPDATE - Fuel tanker fire, Cairns: One lane of the Captain Cook Highway has been reopened after a fuel tanker crashed and exploded this afternoon at Wangetti Beach, about 35 kilometres north of Cairns. The road was expected to be opened earlier, but fires keep igniting in the fuel and on the tanker. The driver, believed to be aged in his early forties, is in Cairns Base Hospital in a serious condition. Crews are expected to recover the truck tomorrow morning.

Arrest for going armed in public, Ipswich: An 18-year-old Ipswich man has been charged with two counts of going armed in public and one count each of attempted armed robbery, possess knife in public, attempted unlawful entry to a motor vehicle and obstruct police, after he allegedly approached people at random armed with a knife and a broken bottle in Ipswich CBD yesterday. Just after 5.40pm it is alleged he tried to get into a woman’s car while she was parked in Limestone Street, but the woman locked the doors and drove off. In a separate incident, the man allegedly approached a man in the carpark outside Autobarn on Limestone Street, threatening him with a broken bottle and demanding his car keys. The victim was able to thwart the offender and alert police. The man will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

Fatal traffic incident, Nambour - Four-vehicle traffic incident, south of Miriam Vale
Fatal traffic incident, Nambour: About 3.55pm yesterday a car and a 4WD were involved in a head-on collision along Petrie Creek Road at Nambour. It appears that the car was travelling east when the driver lost control around a bend, causing it to veer into the path of the 4WD travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Sunrise Beach woman, was taken to Nambour Hospital where she later died. The 37-year-old man from Eudlo who was driving the 4WD suffered minor injuries and shock, but was not admitted to hospital.

Charges after Redcliffe assault victim dies: A 38-year-old Redcliffe man has been charged with manslaughter after the death of a man following an assault on February 17 at a Sutton Street, Redcliffe residence. The 37-year-old male victim from Caboolture died in Royal Brisbane Hospital yesterday as a result of injuries. The man appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court and was given bail to reappear on May 19.
