Serious assault, New Mapoon: A 40-year-old woman has been hospitalised following a domestic incident at an address in Parry Street, New Mapoon. The woman and a 31-year-old man became involved in a dispute around 9pm last night. It is alleged the victim was struck in the head a number of times with a piece of wood. She was treated at Bamaga Hospital for a suspected fractured skull before being airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital. Police are continuing their enquiries to locate the offender.

Commissioner's statement re Senior Sergeant Hurley
The Queensland Police Commissioner, Bob Atkinson said today that the QPS acknowledged the Director of Public Prosecutions announcement that the DPP would not be proceeding with any criminal charges against Senior Sergeant Hurley, and the Crime and Misconduct Commission advice that, “….no disciplinary action before the Misconduct Tribunal or by the Queensland Police Service can be taken against the police officer in relation to the cause of death or in relation to the charges of assault or perjury…..”.
