Police are seeking the female driver of a stolen car that was involved in a hit and run crash with a motorcyclist on the Gold Coast this afternoon. The incident occurred at 1.40pm today when the motorcyclist and a BMW collided at Heron Avenue at Mermaid Beach. The driver of the BMW failed to stop after the collision.

Gold Coast police have released a comfit image of a man involved in a serious assault at a Burleigh Heads tavern on January 13. The 32-year-old male victim was confronted by two men in the Swell Tavern on the Gold Coast Highway who began to verbally abuse him. An altercation erupted before the victim was punched in the head a number of times by one of the offenders.

Police on duty at Aurukun have advised that overnight the community was calm. The only incident to report that was about 9.30pm an offender or offenders attempted to break into the tavern. Police are investigating this incident.

Inquiries are continuing into the disturbance at Aurukun last night which caused extensive damage to the police station, canteen, shop and other buildings and police vehicles.

Armed robbery, Inala: Police are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store on Magnolia Street Inala overnight.  Around 8pm two men entered the Kontiki Korner Store armed with knives.  The men demanded money from the store owners and ran off heading east along Magnolia Street with the day’s takings.  The men were described as being Caucasian and between 18 to 20 years of age.  When last seen both men had shirts wrapped around their heads and were wearing gloves.

An off duty police officer from Thursday Island has been attacked by a crocodile estimated to be more than three metres long near Adolphus Island in The Torres Strait.

Witnesses to fatal traffic incident sought: Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal traffic incident that killed a 58-year-old Wynnum man at Wynnum on December 31. At 6.20pm, the man died after the pushbike he was riding collided with a car on a roundabout on Wynnum Road, Wynnum. Police are appealing for the driver of a 4WD, possibly grey in colour, reportedly at the roundabout at the time of the incident to contact police. The occupants of the vehicle are asked to contact the Accident Investigation Squad on 3364 3311.
