Body located, Tannum Sands: A 27-year-old Gladstone woman is believed to have drowned while visiting Tannum Sands today. Around 11.50am a group of four fishermen located the woman’s body about 20 metres from shore near the mouth of Wild Cattle Creek on Tannum Sands Beach. They pulled the woman from the water and two of them commenced CPR with the assistance of an off duty life saver and an ambulance was called. Queensland Ambulance Service officers arrived a short time later but were unable to revive the woman and pronounced her deceased at the scene. Investigations are continuing however no suspicious circumstances are believed to have taken place.
Fatal rail incident, Aeroglen (Cairns): Police are investigating a fatal rail incident at Aeroglen in Cairns just after 5pm today. A woman, believed to be in her thirties, was killed when struck by a southbound train on the rail bridge over Saltwater Creek about two kilometres from the station. The woman was believed to have been fishing from the bridge at the time of the incident.
Traffic crash, Ravenshoe: Ravenshoe police are urging all motorists to be aware of their surroundings and wildlife after a three vehicle crash on the Kennedy Highway between Ravenshoe and Mt Garnet today. The incident took place near Millstream at 11.40 this morning and witnesses indicated a stray animal was on the highway at the time. It is believed a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Gordonvale woman collided with one vehicle, but then continued on causing extensive damage to another vehicle traveling south along the road. The 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old female passenger were both transported by the Queensland Ambulance Service to Atherton Hospital with cuts, bruises and abrasions. Investigations are continuing into this incident and police are appealing to motorists to be extra careful on the roads throughout the long weekend. Ravenshoe Officer in Charge, Sergeant Michael Musumeci, urges all visitors to this area to be ever vigilant for stray wildlife on our local highway network and be prepared for the unexpected. “The driver and passenger in this incident are extremely lucky to escape without more serious injuries,” he said. Traffic crash, Dalby: A 25-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after a traffic crash at Dalby this morning. About 10.40am two vehicles travelling on Dalby Jandowae Road about 19 kilometres north of Dalby collided. The 25-year-old driver of a sedan was trapped in the vehicle and was later airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane with head and chest injuries. The man’s two children a girl, 4, and boy, 5, were taken to Dalby hospital for examination however are not believed to have any serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, a man aged 68, received facial injuries and was taken to Dalby Hospital for treatment. The road remained closed until about 2pm. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
Attempted robbery arrest, Brisbane City: A 23-year-old Oxley man will appear in court charged with the attempted robbery of the 7-Eleven convenience store on George Street in the city this morning. It is alleged about 5.45am the man lifted his shirt over his head and demanded money from the male sales attendant. The attendant declined and tried to grab the man however he ran off empty handed. Two witnesses stopped the man from running off and held him until police attended and arrested him.
Motor vehicle theft with violence, Ashmore: Police are investigating the violent theft of a vehicle, from the Ashmore Tavern car park at the corner of Cotlew Street and Currumburra Road, Ashmore this afternoon. Around 4.20pm a 39-year-old woman was sitting in passenger’s seat of the late model grey Mitsubishi Outlander, registration 424KVD, waiting for her husband to return, when two men approached the vehicle and demanded she get out. When she refused one of the men grabbed her, pulled her out of the seat and threw her to the ground. This man then got into the passenger’s seat of the vehicle. As the victim lay on the ground she heard the vehicle start and then saw it drive down Cotlew Street, Ashmore towards Surfers Paradise. The men are described as being of Caucasian appearance and in their early 20's. Both have short shaved hair and stocky builds, one was wearing a black shirt and the other a white sleeveless shirt and knee-length pants. The woman was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service officers for bruising to the back of the head. The vehicle has not yet been located.
