Deprivation of liberty, Ma Ma Creek/Hattonvale: Police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old Hattonvale man after an incident at Ma Ma Creek near Hattonvale yesterday. About 6.30am a Ma Ma Creek resident went out to her backyard and was allegedly confronted by a man armed with a firearm. They went back into the home where it is alleged the man held the woman, 34, against her will for several hours. They left the home in a 4WD, stopping at a store on the Warrego Highway outside Gatton. The woman told a member of the public she was being held against her will and that person alerted police. The woman was able to run from the man into a paddock and the man left the store. The man allegedly continued on in the 4WD and police located him at Narangba where he was taken into custody without incident. The man was charged with stalking, enter premise with intent, deprivation of liberty, assault and unlawful possession a weapon. He is due to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
Drug charges, Cairns: A 43-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 2 after police executed a search warrant on a rural property at Mutchilba yesterday and allegedly located approximately 70kgs of cannabis. The Mutchilba pair were charged with possessing cannabis sativa, supplying a dangerous drug and a possessing a thing used in the commission of a crime.
Fatal, Mareeba: A 60-year-old man was killed last night in a single vehicle crash at Mareeba. A local called Triple 0 around 11.45pm after hearing a loud bang. Police located the crash on the Peninsula Development Road a short time later. Preliminary investigations indicate the man lost control and hit a culvert, rolling the vehicle. He was thrown from the driver’s seat and went under the vehicle. He died at the scene. Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Mareeba police on 4030 3300.
Shots fired, Carina: About 9.10 last night two men armed with firearms approached a man in a backyard of a residence on Rembrandt Street at Carina. A shot was fired and they told the man to get inside the residence. He complied and the two offenders went inside and assaulted two female occupants. The male occupant intervened and another shot was fired before the two offenders fled. The male occupant received a minor injury to his leg, believed to be from a ricochet. He did not require any treatment and the women were not seriously injured. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
Armed robbery, Rockhampton: Police are investigating the armed robbery of the United Service Station at Rockhampton last night. Just before 11.30 a man armed with a knife entered the service station on Lower Dawson Road and demanded cash from the female employee. She complied and the man fled with a sum of cash. He is described as being Caucasian with an olive complexion, approximately 160cms tall, with a slim build and brown eyes. He was wearing a balaclava over his face, jeans and a long sleeved hooded jacket.
Chemist break-in, Kallangur: Police are continuing to investigate a break and enter of a Kallangur pharmacy where a quantity of drugs was stolen. Sometime between 6.30pm Tuesday and 8am yesterday unknown person/s broke into the Kallangur Discount Drug Store on Anzac Avenue stealing various pharmaceutical medications before fleeing. There is no description of the offender/s.
Suspicious fire, Clifton: Police are investigating a suspicious fire of a commercial building in Fisher Street, Clifton about 10.15am on Tuesday. QFRS attended and fought the blaze for four hours however the building was totally gutted. Preliminary investigations have found that the fire is suspicious.
