Serious assault police charges, Carrara: A 40-year-old man has been charged after allegedly assaulting three female police officers overnight. Police were called to the Carrara address around 9.15pm in relation to a disturbance. It is alleged that while attempting to detain the man he became violent and assaulted one officer before head-butting the second and twisting the third officer’s arm. He has been charged with four counts of obstruct police and three counts of serious assault police. He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

Fatal traffic crash, Surfers Paradise: Police are investigating a serious crash involving a taxi and a pedestrian at the intersection of Markwell Avenue and Surfers Paradise Boulevard this morning. Police were called to the incident around 3am where a man believed to be in his mid 20s was fatally injured. Initial inquiries indicate the man was lying on the roadway when he was struck by the taxi. The man was transported to the Gold Coast Hospital where he later died. Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Serious assault, Hillcrest: Police are investigating a serious assault at Hillcrest this morning. About 2.10am three men were involved in an altercation outside the Greenbank RSL. After being separated by security at the premises all three left the scene. Two of the men walked towards the Middle Road overpass and the third man then followed in a vehicle. The man in the vehicle has then approached the other two men and assaulted one with an iron bar. The offender has then returned to his car and driven towards the victim, striking him and knocking him to the ground. The offender then drove from the scene. The victim, a 49-year-old Loganlea man, was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with a suspected fractured leg and head injuries. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. Inquiries are continuing.
