Update double fatality, Hervey Bay

The 22-year-old driver involved in the fatal crash last night has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The crash occurred on the Esplanade at Torquay around 11.20pm.

Initial investigations indicate that speed may have been a factor in the crash.

A police patrol allegedly saw a vehicle speeding, however it sped off before it could be intercepted. This car allegedly collided into the rear of another car with the male driver and female passenger of the second car being killed.

The five occupants of the other car, including the man charged, received non life-threatening injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit and Ethical Standard Command are investigating.
