Serious traffic incident, Inala: An 18-year-old Inala woman was lucky to survive after the car she was driving was severely damaged when it struck a power pole in Libra Street, Inala shortly after 1am this morning. The woman, the sole occupant of the vehicle had to be cut free from the car before being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition. Debris from the vehicle was scattered up to 30 metres from the point of impact. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
Gas leak, Banyo: A leaking ammonia bottle is believed responsible for a gas leak at a Banyo factory last night. Around 8.50pm emergency services were advised of a gas leak at the Buchanan Road business. The business self evacuated and several employees were transported to hospital for observation.
Serious assault police, Newtown (Toowoomba): A 44-year-old man has been charged with two counts of serious assault police after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife last night. Around 6.30pm police attended an address in Tynedale Avenue in relation to a disturbance. Upon arrival the man allegedly approached police whilst holding a large knife and refused calls to drop the weapon. Police eventually managed to subdue him with the assistance of OC spray. No one was injured during the incident and the man is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
Stand-off continues, Maudsland (near Pacific Pines): Police are negotiating with a 43-year-old man who has locked himself inside a house in Maudsland. Police were called to the Gellert Court address around 11am yesterday morning. The man is believed to be the only person inside the house.
Truck rollover, Macalister (near Dalby): Police and emergency service personnel are currently at the scene of a truck rollover which occurred on the Warrego Highway, approximately 10klm west of Macalister, which is located 30 kilometres west of Dalby. A trailer being towed by a prime mover rolled around 1am this morning. The highway remains blocked at this location and police are advising motorists to seek alternate routes. These could include using the Dalby–Kogan Road via Chinchilla and the Dalby– Jandowae Road via Warra. The 34-year-old male driver was not injured during the incident and it is anticipated that the highway will remain closed for several more hours.
Fire, Kippa Ring Village Shopping Centre: Around 2.20 this morning a blaze broke out in the Aussie Roster store located in the Kippa Ring Village Shopping Centre. The fire was quickly brought under control and resulted in minor damage to the shop. A couple of adjoining businesses also received minor smoke damage. Preliminary investigations indicate the cause of the fire is likely to be non suspicious.
