Robbery with violence, Beachmere (Caboolture): Police are seeking witnesses to an incident that occurred on James Street at Beachmere yesterday afternoon. Around 5.40pm a 40-year-old woman was walking along the street when she was struck on the head from behind by an unknown person. The blow knocked her unconscious, and when she awoke a short time later she found her purse was missing from her handbag. The woman was able to walk home and contact police. She received swelling and bruising to the back of the head and attended Caboolture Hospital for treatment.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Search and rescue, Whitsunday Islands: About 4.50pm yesterday a distress call was received from a 25-year-old tourist who had been canoeing in Cumberland Passage in the Whitsunday Islands. The man stated his boat was taking on water and was sinking. Volunteer Marine Rescue officers and the CQ helicopter responded and located the man around 5.40pm after he activated a flare. He was picked up by a passing yacht and taken to Airlie Beach. The man did not require medical treatment. It is believed the canoe was swamped by waves, causing it to begin to sink.

Rescue, Gold Coast: A couple were forced to swim for their lives after their boat sank early this morning inside Jumpin Pin near Short Island. Around 1.40am the couple, aged 53 and 54, awoke to find the boat sinking, and they swam to a nearby houseboat for assistance. Water Police and paramedics attended, and the couple were taken back to shore about 3am. The woman was admitted to the Gold Coast Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this stage. The cause of the incident is unknown, however it is believed a mechanical failure may have contributed.
