Fatal traffic crash, Millaa Millaa; Assault, Toowoomba; Burglary, Kowanyama
Fatal traffic crash, Millaa Millaa: A head-on collision at Millaa Millaa this afternoon cost two people their lives and left another three in hospital. Around 1.55pm a sedan and a 4WD were traveling in opposite directions along the Millaa Millaa–Malanda Road, approximately 1.5 kilometres north of Millaa Millaa, when they collided. A woman in her 20’s and a young girl traveling in the sedan died at the scene. The male driver of this vehicle, a man in his 20’s and a female toddler were transported to Atherton Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The 18-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the 4WD sustained non life threatening injuries and was also treated at Atherton Hospital. Police investigations are continuing. Assault, Toowoomba: Police are investigating a road incident which left four people requiring hospital treatment at Toowoomba this afternoon. Shortly after midday two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along Stenner Street when one of the cars allegedly veered into the path of the other one. A short time later both vehicles stopped in Golf Course Drive where the occupants of both cars became involved in a fight which allegedly included a crowbar and skateboard. The male driver of one of the vehicles, and the three occupants of the other vehicle, two men and a woman, all sustained non life threatening injuries and were treated at Toowoomba Base Hospital. A female child in one of the cars was uninjured. It is believed that the occupants of both vehicles were unknown to each other prior to the incident. Police investigations are continuing. Burglary, Kowanyama: A 19-year-old Kowanyama man has been charged with three counts of burglary and commit an indictable offence following alleged break-ins at a residence in Kowanyama. Between January 27 and 31 a private dwelling occupied by a Kowanyama police officer was allegedly broken into on three occasions and personal property stolen. The man is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday. The residence was unoccupied at the time.
