Morning Round-up

Stealing and serious assault, Beerwah: Police have charged a 19-year-old Dicky Beach man with one count of serious assault and one count of stealing after an incident last night. Police allege the 19-year-old stole an amount of alcohol from the Beerwah Hotel around 7.30pm, before returning to a residence in Beerwah. They were able to identify him via surveillance footage. Upon locating the man at the residence, it is alleged he became violent with an officer punching him several times in the head area, attempted to eye gouge him, head butted him and spat in his face. The officer suffered bruising and a cut lip and was treated by QAS. The 19-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Caloundra Magistrates Court on February 17.

Burglary arrest, Maroochydore: A 17-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly struck a police vehicle whilst fleeing from a car yard early this morning. Around 2am police patrolling Sugar Road, Maroochydore noticed an illuminated car light at the dealership. It is alleged police parked the car in the driveway and before they got out of the vehicle a car drove out of the dealership, through the bollards striking the front of the police vehicle. The car then fled along Sugar Road. Police followed the car, locating it a short time later in a nearby street. A police dog found the man a short distance away. The Buderim man has been charged with one count of burglary, one count of wilful damage, one count of wilful damage of police property and five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He has been bailed to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on the February 5.

Burglary, Maroochydore: Police responding to an alarm at a business on Horton Parade, Maroochydore early this morning found the front window had been smashed. Initial enquiries reveal around 4.20am the offender/s entered the chemist by throwing a rock through a front window. A quantity of drugs was stolen. Investigations are continuing.

Serious Assault, Runcorn: Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Runcorn overnight. A 16-year-old boy was struck in the face with broken glass whilst talking to friends on Ervatamia Road. Around 11pm a man approached the victim and asked him a question before grabbing him by the shirt and striking him in the face. The victim suffered a serious cut to his nose and is currently receiving treatment in the Princess Alexandra Hospital. The offender is described as approximately 178cm tall, of asian appearance with black hair and brown eyes.

Missing woman, Cleveland: Police are currently searching the area surrounding the Redlands Hospital after a 76-year-old woman went missing this morning. Around 7.30am the woman, who suffers a medical condition left the hospital on Weippin Street. The woman is described as short with a slight build and long grey blonde hair. She was wearing a floral skirt with a long sleeve cream top and carrying a brown suitcase and a bag over her shoulder. The woman may be disorientated.
