Serious assault of police officer, Alexandra Hills: A 40-year-old man allegedly spat in the face of a police officer during an altercation at Alexandra Hills this morning. It is alleged police were assisting staff at a hotel on Finucane Road when the incident occurred around 12.30am. Police were restraining the Wynnum West man when he allegedly spat in the face of one male officer hitting him in the eye. The man then allegedly turned towards a second male officer and spat on him hitting the front of his shirt. The man is due to appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court this morning charged with one count each of fail to leave licensed premises and removal of person from premises and two counts of serious assault of police. The officer will undergo disease testing.
Assault and robbery, Gulliver (Townsville): A 20-year-old man was assaulted early this morning on Begg Street, Gulliver. The victim was approached by two men as he got out of a vehicle around 3.50am. One man spoke to the victim before hitting him in the face. The victim fell to the ground and the men then took his mobile phone before fleeing on bicycles. The men are described as between 17 and 25-years-old, about 175cm tall with a tanned complexion. Unlawful wounding, Ashmore: Police are searching for a group of teenagers responsible for assaulting a 29-year-old man in Ashmore late last night. The victim, and a group of friends were involved in an altercation with a group of about 10 teenagers in a carpark in Currumburra Road, Ashmore. Around 11.40pm the victim suffered a stab wound to his right thigh after being surrounded by four youths. The group then fled the area. The victim was transported to the Gold Coast Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Investigations are continuing. House fire, South Brisbane: Police were called to a house fire in Browning Street, South Brisbane this morning. The blaze, which is not considered suspicious, started around 12.30am. The house was extensively damaged and was vacant at the
