Innisfail road status report
The highway is open from Cairns to Cardwell however it remains closed south of Cardwell at the Seymour River with more than 1.5 metres of water still flowing over the road.
Police would like to remind members of the public to monitor the on-going localised flooding situation in northern Queensland by listening to local radio updates, contacting local councils and for the latest information on road closures visit www.police.qld.gov. and follow the links under ‘News and Alerts’.
Driving Tips:
- Large pot holes fill with water during rains and cannot be seen – drive carefully to road conditions.
- Do not drive blindly into flood waters –the depth may vary. Washaways & logs cannot be seen especially at night.
- Do not use the vehicle’s cruise control at all when the roads are wet.
- Watch for animals near road edges when flood waters are in nearby paddocks – animals may be trying to find dryer grounds.
- Shallow surface waters on a road if hit at speed will cause your car to aqua-plane and may crash.
- Surface waters may continue running across a road for hours after a period of rain.
- Surface waters running across a road are found more commonly on hills than flat low roads.
