Armed robbery, Springfield: A man armed with a firearm robbed a Springfield service station last evening. Around 8.05pm the man entered the United Service Station on Woodcrest Way and threatened the male console operator before fleeing with a sum of cash. The man is described as approx 180cms, medium build and wearing a balaclava, long dark coloured shirt and dark track pants. Robbery, Toombul: Around 1.10am two men entered a McDonalds store located at the Toombul Shopping Centre and threatened two staff members. The men stole a sum of cash before fleeing. Both men are believed to be Caucasian, with proportionate builds and aged in their 20’s. No one was injured and police investigations are continuing. House fire, Helensvale: A Helensvale couple woken by smoke alarms had to flee from their burning home last evening. Around 10pm the man and woman, both aged 53, awoke to discover their home well alight. The blaze was extinguished by fire officers but not before it caused significant damage to the house. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined with police guarding the Leura Court residence overnight until the arrival of scientific officers later this morning. The couple was treated for smoke inhalation and police investigations are continuing.
Armed robbery, Marsden: Three men, one armed with a screwdriver, held-up a service station at Marsden yesterday. Around 10.35am the men jumped out of a white four door hatchback and entered the Browns Plains Road petrol station where they threatened a female console operator before fleeing with a sum of cash and cigarettes. No one was injured during the robbery and police investigations are continuing. The first man is described as aged in his late 20’s, approximately 175cms, Caucasian, slim to medium build and wearing a dark coloured jumper, hood and cap. The second man is believed to be aged in his early 20’s. 175cms tall, Caucasian, slim to moderate build and wearing a white hooded jumper with green and brown monkeys on it. The third man is described as also aged in his early 20’s, 180cms tall, Caucasian, three quarter length black pants, no shirt and white sandshoes. All three men had material covering their faces. Chemist break-in, Alderley: Thieves drove a sedan into the front doors of a chemist at Alderley last evening before gaining entry and stealing a quantity of property. Around 11.50pm a small green or dark blue sedan smashed one panel of a glass door enabling two males to break into the Alderley Plaza Pharmacy on South Pine Road. An inventory is currently being conducted however it is believed the men stole a quantity of medication. Police investigations are continuing. Traffic crash, Ashmore: Two Nerang police officers were lucky to escape serious injury after their vehicle rolled following a two vehicle crash at Ashmore last evening. Around 9.25pm the marked police 4WD was traveling west along Nerang-Southport Road when a sedan traveling east attempted to make a right hand turn into Cotlew Street. The two vehicles collided resulting in the 4WD rolling over. The male driver and his female passenger managed to extricate themselves from the 4WD. They were treated at Allamanda Private Hospital for soft tissue injuries and bruising and later released. The 66-year-old female driver and sole occupant of the sedan was treated for shock. Police investigations are continuing.
