Serious Traffic Crash, South Brisbane;Serious Assault Police, Mount Sheridan; Building fire, Southport; Suspicious fire, Yarraman; Burglary and assault charges, Manunda, Cairns; Fatal traffic crash, OakeySerious Traffic Crash, South Brisbane: A man in his 30’s suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a bus in South Brisbane late yesterday afternoon. The incident happened at the intersection of Melbourne and Grey Streets around 5.30pm. Initial investigations indicate the man stepped from the centre of the roadway into the path of the bus travelling along Melbourne Street. The man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition. The bus driver and passengers were not injured. Serious Assault Police, Mount Sheridan: A 37-year-old man allegedly punched an officer several times in the face after he was detained at a random breath testing site in Mount Sheridan last night. Just before 7.30pm police intercepted the man as he drove his vehicle along Hardy Road. While police were speaking with the man he allegedly became verbally abusive and aggressive before he struck the male constable. Police deployed OC spray and were able to restrain the man. Police charged the Mount Sheridan man with, driving with a blood alcohol concentration (0.111), serious assault police and obstruct police. He has been bailed to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 1.
Building fire, Southport: Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire at a business in Southport overnight. Around 9.20pm emergency services were called to the charity store on the corner of Young and Garden Streets. The fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the stop and smoke damage to neighbouring businesses. Initial investigations indicate the fire was started in a bin before it spread to the building. The store was unoccupied and no one was injured in the blaze. Suspicious fire, Yarraman: Police remain at the scene of a fire that significantly damaged four businesses in Yarraman yesterday afternoon. Police and emergency services were called to Margaret Street around 4pm to find the building well alight. The shops were closed for business when the blaze started and no one was injured. A crime scene has been established to allow officers to conduct a scientific examination today. Burglary and assault charges, Manunda, Cairns: A 19-year-old man suffered bruising to his head and shoulders following an incident in Manunda yesterday afternoon. It is alleged a 19-year-old man smashed a glass door and entered a home in Pease Street around 1.15pm. It is alleged the man then assaulted the victim before leaving. Police located and arrested the Parramatta Park man a short time later. The man has been charged with one count each of wilful damage, burglary and commit an indictable offence and assault occasioning bodily harm. Fatal traffic crash, Oakey: Just after midnight a 22-year-old man lost his life in a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Oakey. Initial investigations reveal the Oakey man lost control of his motorcycle as he travelled along Werth Street. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
