Fatal crash, Hervey Bay: Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a single vehicle crash which killed a teenage boy in the Hervey Bay suburb of Torquay overnight. About midnight a sedan containing four occupants, including the 18-year-old female driver, collided with a power pole on Cypress Street, trapping all occupants. They were extracted from the vehicle by fire and rescue officers. The boy died at the scene and the three injured occupants were taken to Hervey Bay Hospital for treatment. The forensic crash unit is investigating and would like to speak with anyone who may have seen a red Holden sedan in the Torquay area shortly before midnight. Taxi driver robbed, Cairns: A Cairns taxi driver was held up at knife point at 7.45pm yesterday when the passenger he was transporting ordered him to stop on the side of the road. The 40-year-old driver had collected the fare from the Lake Street cab rank and was driving him along Kowinka Street, Whiterock when the robbery occurred. The offender escaped with a sum of money without harming the driver. The offender is described as being aged in his late 20s, about 160cm tall with a stocky build and of indigenous appearance. He was wearing a black beanie, a green zip-up jacket and white sneakers and was carrying a blue shopping bag.
