Morning Round-up Second Edition
Unlawful wounding, attempted armed robbery, Cairns: Police are searching for the person/s who attempted to rob a Cairns man early this morning. Shortly after midnight a 22-year-old man had just walked past the Bendigo Bank on MacKenzie Street, walking in an easterly direction, when an unknown person approached him from behind and grabbed him around the neck. The assailant demanded money and when the victim was unable to comply he was dragged a short distance, possibly with the assistance of a second offender. The man was then punched in the stomach and thigh area. The victim fell to the ground and the offender/s fled the scene. A woman driving past saw the man lying on the ground and rendered assistance before he was transported to Cairns Base Hospital where he was treated for two puncture wounds, one to his abdomen and one to his thigh. Police investigations are continuing; the victims wounds are not believed to be life threatening.
Located bushwalkers, Neurum (near Woodford): Five people missing overnight on Mount Archer, Neurum were located safe and well shortly after 8.30 this morning. The group was spotted by a rescue helicopter approximately 1.3 kilometres from the base of a walking track. The group, consisting of two families from North Lakes, including two boys and a girl, aged seven; eight and nine were airlifted down to an area near the Neurum Creek Bush Retreat where they were reunited with concerned family members. The group were uninjured after their wet and cold ordeal.
