Afternoon Round-up

Robbery charges, Zillmere: Two juveniles, aged 13 and 15, have been charged following a theft at a convenience store and alleged robbery and assault of an off-duty police officer in Zillmere on Sunday night. It is alleged they entered the store around 10.30pm and stole items before they were disturbed by an off-duty officer. It is believed one boy was restrained by the off-duty officer before the second boy allegedly kicked him in his face before running from the scene with the officer’s wallet. They have both been charged with one count each of stealing. The 13-year-old has also been charged with one count of serious assault police and the 15-year-old has been further charged with one count of robbery with violence. Both boys will be dealt with under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Update - Overdue bushwalker, Daintree National Park: Police wish to advise that the 25-year-old man reported missing in the Daintree National Park has been located safe and well. He was located overnight near the Alexandra Creek by a lodge staff member and was escorted out of the national park by SES just after 9am He was in good health and did not require transport to hospital.

Update – Double fatal crash, Millaa Millaa: A 68-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy were killed in a semi-trailer crash on the Kennedy Highway at Millaa Millaa around 4.30am today.  An eight-year-old girl was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The highway is now open to all traffic.

Update- Fatal traffic crash, Miles: A 25-year-old woman has been killed in a single vehicle crash at Miles this morning. Around 8.15am police were notified of the crash on the Warrego Highway around 3kms east of Miles. Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle was heading west when it is believed to have lost control and rolled. A boy, aged 6, and a girl, aged 4, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Miles Hospital.
