Fatal, Eagle Farm: Police are currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle truck roll over on the southbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway near Eagle Farm. The crash occurred around 5.40am, killing the male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. One southbound lane is open to traffic while the Forensic Crash Unit commences their investigations into the crash and to allow the removal of the truck. Motorists can expect significant delays on the motorway and are asked to avoid the area or delay travel.
Restaurant fire, Cairns: Investigations will commence today into a fire that started this morning at a Cairns restaurant. Around 12.15am police on patrols observed the fire at the restaurant on Spence Street and notified QFRS, who attended and extinguished the fire. The building received moderate damage to the kitchen area. No one was injured. The scene was guarded overnight and investigations are continuing.
Charges following Narangba and Morayfield pursuit: Three people have been charged following the pursuit of a stolen vehicle overnight. About 11.30pm police conducting patrols observed a stolen vehicle involved in an earlier petrol drive off at Narangba at the intersection of Walkers Road and Oakey Flat Road. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was commenced. It was terminated a short time later when police lost sight of the stolen vehicle. A second police patrol located the stolen vehicle just before midnight at the intersection of Oakey Flat Road and Narin Road at Morayfield and pursued the vehicle after the driver failed to stop. Stingers were successfully deployed and police arrested the two passengers but the male driver fled on foot. The dog squad tracked the driver to Marscay Court but he refused to comply with police direction and again ran away before being apprehended by a police dog in a nearby backyard. The man was taken to the Caboolture Watch House where he was treated by QAS for minor injuries. A 20-year-old Caboolture man and a 17-year-old Deception Bay woman, allegedly the passengers, were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The man is expected to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court today and the woman on July 27. An 18-year-old Deception Bay man, allegedly the driver, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstruct police and two counts of failing to stop. He is due to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on July 6.
Serious assault on police, Bundaberg: A female First Year Constable was injured after a bottle was thrown at her at Bundaberg last night. Police were called to a residence on Beatrice Street around 9.30pm to assist with closing down a party. The officer was standing near a police vehicle when a glass bottle was thrown at her, hitting the back of her neck. A second bottle was thrown hitting the police vehicle. The officer was taken to the Bundaberg Base Hospital for treatment for bruising and swelling and was later released.
