Morning Round-up Second Edition

House fire, Holland Park:  A fire has damaged a house overnight on Burlington Street, Holland Park. Around 1.50am police and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were called the residence after reports of smoke from the neighbours. QFRS were able to extinguish the blaze with no one was home at the time of the fire. Police are treating the fire as non-suspicious at this stage.

Robbery, Carrara:  Police are investigating a robbery at a bottle shop on Pappas Way at Carrara last night. Around 6.50 a man entered the shop and gestured to the attendant that he may have a weapon. He demanded cash from the attendant who complied. The man then fled on foot south along Pappas Way. The man is described as being in his 20’s, 185cm with an average build. He was wearing black track pants, jumper, baseball cap with white shoes. Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Assault charges, Currumbin: Police have charged a 33-year-old man with assault occasioning bodily harm after an alleged incident at Currumbin last night. Around 10pm the man got in a taxi at the Wharf Street taxi rank. As the taxi pulled onto the Pacific Motorway it is alleged the man punched and kicked the taxi driver. The man fled the scene but was located a short time later. The taxi driver suffered non-life threatening head injuries and was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital. The man is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
