Afternoon Round-up
Serious assault, Boondall: A 28-year-old man was hit in the head with a piece of wood following an early morning incident at Boondall today. Around 00.20am the man was in Beams Road when he became involved in a verbal altercation in the street with a number of youths. One of the male teenagers hit the man in the head and body with a piece of wood before fleeing on foot. The Boondall man fell to the ground momentarily losing conscious; he was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he received treatment for a head laceration and later released. The youths were last seen travelling down Beams Road and into Groth Street. Update traffic crash, Stafford: A 25-year-old Bald Hills man is in a serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital following a single vehicle crash at Stafford early this morning. Around 4.45am the man’s car collided with a power pole on Burbank Street, near the intersection with Chuter Road, snapping the pole in half. The vehicle then continued for another 20 to 30 metres before coming to a stop in Burbank Street. It is expected that power disruptions in Burbank, Chuter and Brewster streets could last for several more hours. Burbank Street is also expected to be closed for most of the day. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating. The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
