Appeal for information - fatal traffic incident, Mareeba: Police are appealing for information which may assist with the investigation into a fatal traffic incident at Mareeba last night. The body of a man was discovered on the Mulligan Highway, Mareeba in far north Queensland. Just before 8pm a motorist reported the man’s body near the Granite Creek Bridge on the highway which is also known as the Peninsular Development Road. Initial investigations indicate that the man was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene. It is believed the man had been in Mossman around 3pm yesterday and had travelled to Mareeba. He was wearing a red-checked shirt, dark jeans and a cap and is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance. Anyone who may have seen the man near the Granite Creek Bridge shortly before 8pm is asked to contact Mareeba police on 4030 3300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au.

Unit fire, Clontarf: About 6.25 last night police were notified of a fire at a unit on Wendy Crescent, Clontarf. The unit sustained significant damage and two other units in the complex sustained smoke and water damage. An initial scene examination indicates that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire. A man and a boy sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Redcliffe Hospital for treatment.
