National Advance Fee Fraud Symposium 2009, Gold Coast
The State Crime Operations Command Fraud and Corporate Crime Group will be hosting the National Advance Fee Fraud Symposium 2009 today and tomorrow on the Gold Coast.This year’s theme is “Advance Fee Fraud – why cooperation can make a difference”. Speakers and delegates from across Australia, the United States, Nigeria and the United Kingdom will take part in the conference. Law enforcement representatives will join industry representatives to look at advance fee fraud and the significant impact it is having on businesses, organisations and the individual.
The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza, Surfers Paradise.

9am – opening of the conference by Commissioner of Police, Bob Atkinson and Detective Superintendent Brian Hay, Fraud and Corporate Crime Group.
9.15am-9.45am – Keynote address “Global mass marketing fraud” from Professor Jonathan Rusch, United States Department of Justice.
10.45am-11.15am – Paul Ducklin, Sophos “Social networking sites – a harvesting ground for advance fee fraud victims?”. Mr Ducklin will also be available at the conclusion of his presentation.
