Double fatal, Avondale via Bundaberg: A head-on collision at Avondale north-west of Bundaberg at 5.30pm yesterday has claimed the lives of a man and a woman travelling in separate vehicles. Initial investigations suggest that a 40-year-old woman was driving her station wagon in a north-westerly direction along Rosedale Road with her 17-month-old son in the car. The vehicle crossed to the incorrect side of the road and collided head-on with a sedan being driven by a 60-year-old Sunshine Coast man. The drivers of both vehicles were declared deceased at the scene and the toddler was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure but was later released. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit. Wounding at nightclub, Woolloongabba: A 26-year-old Brisbane man is in an induced coma in hospital and is expected to lose an eye following an incident at a night club on Stanley Street, Woolloongabba early today. Police were called to the club around 2.45am in relation to a disturbance on the upstairs dance floor. The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet clear however it appears that a glass was thrown at the victim, hitting him in the face near his eye. He suffered severe injuries to his eye and face and was given first aid by night club security until the arrival of ambulance officers. Police will speak with witnesses today and would like anyone with information in relation to the assault to come forward. Armed robbery, Crestmead: Police are looking for a man who robbed a Crestmead video store south of Brisbane last night. The man, armed with a large kitchen knife, entered the Waratah Drive store just before 10pm and demanded money from the employee. The offender removed a sum of cash from two cash registers and apologised to the employee before escaping from the scene. He is described as being about 19 years of age, about 160cm tall with a slim build and of indigenous appearance. He had short, curly, dark brown hair, no shirt, blue cargo pants and had a white v-neck t-shirt tied around his face. Officer seriously assaulted, Kowanyama: A Kowanyama police sergeant required 11 stitches to a deep gash in his cheek after he was allegedly assaulted by a 30-year-old woman in the remote far north Queensland community overnight. Police attended a disturbance in Kunjen Street about 7.40pm when the woman allegedly smashed the police vehicle’s windscreen and panels with a metal bar. As police attempted to restrain the woman, she allegedly assaulted the officer causing the wound to his cheek. The woman has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage of police property and will appear in Kowanyama Magistrates Court today.

Attempted armed robbery, Labrador: A female offender stabbed a knife into a shop counter at a Gold Coast delicatessen yesterday in an attempted armed robbery. The woman entered the store on Turpin Road, Labrador about 3.20pm and threatened the shop owner with the knife before stabbing the knife into the counter. When the shop owner ran to the rear of the shop, the offender left the store empty-handed. The woman is described as being aged between 40 and 45, of Caucasian appearance, about 160cm tall with a slim build. She had shoulder-length dark brown hair and was wearing large black sunglasses.
