Fatal crash, Kelvin Grove: Police are investigating a fatal single vehicle traffic crash on the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove this morning. The incident occurred on the inbound lanes of the ICB near the Ithaca Street exit about 1.15am when a sedan crashed into the centre concrete barrier. The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, believed to be 20 years of age, was deceased at the scene. The ICB was closed to all inbound traffic while the Forensic Crash Unit conducted their investigations, and was re-opened at 4.45am. Homicide investigation, Mareeba: A 14-year-old girl is deceased and a woman in her 40s is in a critical condition in hospital following an incident at a Mareeba residence yesterday. Police were called to the home about 6.20pm after reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, police located the girl deceased and the woman unconscious. The woman has been transported to Townsville hospital with life-threatening injuries. A man, 51, was later located at a residence north of Mareeba and has been taken to hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Police believe the man can assist with their investigation and will speak with him when he is fit to be interviewed. High-level drink driver, Innisfail: A 39-year-old Innisfail man will appear in court next month charged with driving under the influence of liquor after he allegedly crashed into another vehicle yesterday and then fled the scene. It will be alleged the man collided with the vehicle at the intersection of Grace and Gladys Streets about 5pm, injuring the female driver. The man was located by police a short time later and allegedly returned a reading of 0.422%. In addition to drink driving, he was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a crash and unlicenced driving and will appear in Innisfail Magistrates Court on November 9. The driver of the other vehicle was treated in hospital but was later released.

Armed robberies, Southport: Police believe that one offender is responsible for two armed robberies that occurred within half an hour at Southport yesterday afternoon. About 4.50pm, a man armed with a knife and wearing dark sunglasses entered a shop on Scarborough Street and demanded staff open the till. The two employees walked away from the offender and he fled empty-handed. A short time later at 5.15pm, a man wearing dark sunglasses and wielding a knife of the same description as used in the first offence robbed a coffee shop in Australia Fair Shopping Centre. The man escaped with a sum of cash but did not harm anyone in either incident. Police believe the same offender is responsible for both robberies but changed clothes following the first incident. He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 25-30 years old, about 170cm tall with a slim build and fair complexion. He was wearing a grey hooded jumper and beige pants in the first robbery and black jeans with a bright blue hooded jumper during the second robbery. Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
