Grievous bodily harm charge, Coolangatta: Police have charged a man in relation to an assault which occurred in Coolangatta last night. It is alleged about 11pm a man and woman were walking along Dutton Street when they were approached by the offender and verbally threatened before the offender has allegedly punched the male victim numerous times to the face. The woman was allegedly struck when caught between the offender and the male victim. It is alleged during the incident the male victim has fallen backward and struck his head. A 17-year-old Tweed Heads woman sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation. An 18-year-old man from Bogangar NSW, sustained serious head injuries and is currently in the ICU at the Gold Coast Hospital in a critical but stable condition. An 18-year-old Banora Point man is due to face the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow on one count each of grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Building fire, Wynnum: Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire at a building in Wynnum early today. About 2.45am police patrolling on Mungala Street have observed smoke and fire coming from a vacant two storey building. QFRS were notified and attended to extinguish the fire. No one was believed to have been in the building at the time. Inquiries are continuing.
