Evening Round-up
Serious crash, Morningside: An 18-year-old Aspley man is in a serious condition in hospital following a single vehicle crash at Morningside earlier today. Around 3.30pm the vehicle the man was driving failed to negotiate a bend on Lytton Road and collided with a tree. The man was trapped in the vehicle for a short time before being transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition. Officers from the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.
Road closure – Barkly Highway, Camooweal (near Mount Isa): The Barkly Highway between Mount Isa and Camooweal remains closed following a bushfire in the area this evening. An emergency situation was declared by police at around 6.15pm, with the fire burning around 12km south-east of the township of Camooweal. There has been no need for any evacuations. Road blocks are in place along the highway due to thick smoke in the area. Motorists, in particular truck drivers, are advised to avoid the highway if possible or delay their travel, as there are no alternative routes to the Northern Territory border.
Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
