Attempted armed robbery, Mt Ommaney: Police are searching for an armed man who attempted to rob a restaurant at Mt Ommaney last night. Around 8.20pm a man armed with a handgun entered a Dandenong Road fast food outlet, jumped the front counter and demanded money from a female employee. Other staff approached the counter which appears to have startled the man and he fled empty handed. He is described as aged in his early 20s, Asian appearance, 170cm tall with black hair and a proportionate build. He was wearing a black shirt and denim shorts. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is urged to contact police at Oxley on 3014 3222 or Crime Stoppers. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Salisbury: A 44-year-old Sunnybank man has been charged with several traffic offences, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to provide a specimen of breath and fail to stop as well as obstruct police, following an incident at Salisbury last evening. Around 6pm police were performing random breath tests in Gladstone Road when a car allegedly drove towards them causing two officers to jump out of the way, before the vehicle drove off. Police followed the vehicle and located the car stopped in Orange Grove Road a short time later. The driver allegedly struggled with police before being restrained. He is due to appear in the Holland Park Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Traffic offence, Upper Coomera: A man attempted to avoid police by swimming across a river in Upper Coomera following a single vehicle crash this morning. Around 6am police attended a residence in Herbert Street, where a car had crashed through a fence of a property before colliding with a tree. Whilst talking to the male driver, the man jumped into the Coomera River and swam away. Police using a nearby boat followed the man and made several attempts to get him onboard, before eventually pulling him onto a pontoon. A 22-year-old man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
Serious assault, Noosa: Police are investigating an early morning incident that left a 21-year-old Cooran man hospitalised with serious head injuries. Around 3am an altercation occurred in Hastings Street, Noosa involving several people. During the incident the man was hit and fell to the ground. He was treated at the scene before being transported to Noosa Hospital and possible further treatment at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Police investigations are continuing. Search continues, possible missing swimmer, Mermaid Beach: The search for a man possibly missing in waters off Mermaid Beach continues. An air and sea search using police and Surf Life Saving resources and personnel is underway. To date, no one has been reported missing to police.
