Suspicious death, Westcourt, Cairns: Police investigations are continuing into the suspicious death of a man believed to be in his 40s. Around 1.40am a man was located deceased on a footbridge at the intersection of Mulgrave Road and Brown Street at Westcourt. A crime scene has been established. Clandestine Laboratory, North Booval: A 22-year-old North Booval man will front the Ipswich Magistrates Court today charged with a number of drug and weapons related offences. Around 6pm yesterday police executed a search warrant at a Wattle Street address and allegedly located a large scale clandestine laboratory used for the production of methyl amphetamine. Police also allegedly located a sawn off rifle, knuckle dusters and other property used in the commission of an offence under the drugs misuse act. A crime scene was declared at the house and has been guarded by police overnight. Government chemists and the Illicit Laboratory Investigation Team will attend this morning to fully search the property and dismantle the equipment.
Robbery with violence, Kangaroo Point: Police are seeking witnesses to the robbery of a 20-year-old woman early this morning at Kangaroo Point. Around 1.40am the woman got out of a taxi outside of a hotel in Main Street near the intersection with Bromley Street. The woman noticed three women on the opposite side of the road and saw them cross over to her where they asked her where the railway station was. She felt apprehensive and ran from the women but they chased her and assaulted her. She suffered a minor injury to her hand and soreness to her face. The group stole her handbag containing a mobile phone, cash and a work uniform. Patrols in the area failed to locate the women. They are described as of African appearance, and are all around 19 to 20, with dark complexions and solid builds. One of the women was wearing a black and white dress.
Armed robbery, Hillcrest: Police are investigating an overnight armed robbery at a service station at the intersection of Middle Road and Coronation Street, Hillcrest. Around 9.50am a man entered the store armed with a large knife and tried to force his way behind the counter. The attendant stopped him by holding the door in place but the man leant over the counter and removed a cash tray containing notes and coins from the register. The man ran off on foot heading east towards Coronation Street. He is described as Caucasian, 180cm tall and has a fair complexion. He was wearing a black T shirt with a white motif, black long pants, black shoes, black and white motorcycle gloves and had his face covered with a black mask.
