Attempted armed robbery, Carole Park: Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a post office at Carole Park this morning. Around 10.10 a man entered the store, produced a knife and demanded cash. He fled empty handed after staff refused to hand over any money. The man entered a waiting car which was last seen heading up Waterford Road and into Boundary Road. The man is described as being of Caucasian in appearance, in his early 20’s, around 183cm with a slim build. He was wearing a colourful hat, sunglasses and a light coloured shirt. Update, murder charge, Mt Isa: Police have charged a 38-year-old local woman with murder and causing bodily harm whilst armed following the November 22 death of a man at Mt Isa. The woman was initially charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. She appeared in the Mt Isa Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody to re-appear on February 22, 2010.

Man flees from police, Ravenshoe: Police are currently searching for a 35-year-old man after he allegedly fled from police custody in Kennedy Street, Ravenshoe around 7.05 last night. The man was being escorted by police from a police vehicle to the Ravenshoe Police Station when he allegedly ran off. A foot pursuit and search of the vicinity and surrounding areas failed to locate him. The man is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, approximately 176cm tall, with an average build, brown eyes, short black hair and a long black moustache and beard. He also has a tattoo on his left upper arm. The only clothing that the man was wearing at the time was a pair of dark basketball shorts. The man was in police custody after being arrested for an alleged assault which occurred earlier that evening. Police are urging anyone who has any information regarding the current whereabouts of the man, or who may have seen any hitchhikers matching the mans description or any suspicious activity in the area to contact their local police station, call Triple Zero or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Attempted armed robbery, Northgate: Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a store on Northgate Road today. Around 12.50pm a man entered the store and produced a pair of scissors while demanding money. The store attendant refused and the man fled from the store along Northgate Road. He was last seen running into Love Street at Northgate. The man is described as being of Caucasian in appearance, in his mid 20’s, wearing a white t-shirt and black pants. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured during this incident. Non suspicious death, Main Beach: Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a 33-year-old Gold Coast man at Narrowneck, Main Beach this afternoon. Around 12.40pm the man was pulled from the surf and transported to Gold Coast Hospital. Police investigations into his death are continuing.
