Riding Against Crime

Horses will play a role in fostering a positive relationship between police and African communities during the Riding Against Crime (RAC) day this Sunday.

RAC is a joint partnership project between the Queensland Police Service and ACCESS Services Incorporated, and is supported by NRMA.

Senior Constable Virginia Spence from the Logan District police and the Young People Support Network said five local police officers and 14 students originally from Africa will sample a taste of country life when they learn how to ride and take care of horses.

“The day aspires to build rapport between police and newly arrived African students and to encourage youth to approach police with issues and concerns.

“This gives participants the opportunity to meet and learn from each other.

“The students will also be educated on the consequences of being involved in criminal activity,” she said.

The project has been running for two years, and gave over 30 young refugees the opportunity to meet with local police.
