Update - Fatal single vehicle crash, Tinana (near Maryborough): The man who died in a crash at Tinana at 5.15pm yesterday was a 21-year-old from Maryborough. Investigations suggest the 16-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the road and collide with a tree. The front passenger was declared deceased at the scene and three other passengers, two boys aged 16 and one aged 15, travelling in the back seat were trapped and had to be extracted. Two of the injured people were airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the other two occupants were transferred to Hervey Bay Hospital.

Attempted armed robbery, Benowa: A knife-wielding man attempted to rob a convenience store at Benowa on the Gold Coast last night. The store owner was threatened by the man who entered the Benowa Road business while armed with a knife about 7.50pm. The owner refused to hand over any of the takings and chased the offender from the store. The offender was last seen running east on Collins Street and is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a medium build and about 178cm tall. He was wearing a blue, long-sleeved hooded jumper with white writing down the sleeve, a brown baseball cap, blue jeans, white shoes and had a white scarf around his face. Attempted armed robbery, Runaway Bay: Police are also seeking public assistance in relation to a second armed robbery on the Gold Coast last night. A man entered a liquor store on Oxley Drive, Runaway Bay shortly before 9pm and threatened the shop attendant with a knife. He demanded money but fled the store empty-handed when the attendant refused to hand over any cash. The offender was last seen running south on Oxley Drive. He is described as being about 183cm tall, in his late 30s with a slim build and of Caucasian appearance. He had bad teeth and was wearing a grey hooded jumper. Arson arrest, Rockhampton: A 51-year-old woman will appear in court tomorrow charged with arson after an alleged incident at a Rockhampton boarding house last night. It will be alleged the woman set a curtain alight in the Kent Street building about 10pm, with the subsequent fire causing damage to the wall and ceiling. The male occupant of the unit was asleep at the time but was awoken by the smell of smoke and escaped unhurt.
