Morning round-up

Fatal, Nudgee: A 39-year-old man was killed this morning in a single vehicle crash at Nudgee. Witnesses to the crash notified emergency services around 2am, after watching the sedan roll several times on the northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway before colliding with a sign post. There were no significant delays to traffic following the crash and the site has been cleared. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Industrial death, Ravenshoe: A 56-year-old Walkamin man was killed yesterday while working on a private property at Ravenshoe. Investigations indicate the man died some time yesterday after a tree fell on his excavator. He died at the scene. Work Place Health and Safety officers are investigating and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Man charged over attempted armed robbery, Eastern Heights: An 18-year-old Flinders View man will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today after he allegedly tried to rob the Grange Road Convenience Store at Eastern Heights yesterday. It is alleged the man entered the store around 1.35pm with a second man and they were both armed with knives. It is alleged money was demanded from the attendant however the attendant refused and the men left the store empty-handed. The man was charged with attempted armed robbery and entering a premises with intent. Investigations are continuing.

Suspicious fire, Mount Gravatt: Police are treating a fire at the Mount Gravatt High School last night as suspicious. Around 11.20pm multiple alarms were activated in the administration block and emergency services arrived a short time later. The fire was confined to the administration block with the fire extensively damaging the first floor and smoke and water damage to the ground floor. The scene was guarded overnight and scenes of crime and scientific officers will arrive this morning to carry out investigations.
