Taser camera trial set to start
Police Minister Neil Roberts and Deputy Commissioner Kathy Rynders today announced the Queensland Police Service trial of cameras on Tasers would begin in January.
Mr Roberts said the 10 Tasers with camera units that will be used in the trial are expected to arrive in Brisbane this week.
“The units will undergo testing and evaluation, and trial participants will receive additional training to ensure the Tasercams are operational before the trial begins in the New Year,” Mr Roberts said.
“The six month trial will be conducted in two stages, and will operate out of Logan Central and Caboolture police stations."
Deputy Commissioner Rynders said the first stage of the trial would involve their use by senior operational police, from January until the end of March, at which time they will be trialled by general duties officers for the remainder of the six month period.
“All recorded material will be downloaded after each deployment during the trial,” Deputy Commissioner Rynders said.
“At the conclusion of the trial, a full evaluation will be finalised, and a report and recommendations will be prepared for consideration by the Taser Review Steering Committee.
“The trial of Taser cameras is a recommendation of the joint Crime and Misconduct Commission and QPS evaluation of the QPS Taser Policy, Training and Monitoring and Review Practices,” Deputy Commissioner Rynders said.
