Assault, Surfers Paradise: Police are investigating the assault of a 19-year-old man in Surfers Paradise around 3.40am. A 19-year-old man was walking with a group of friends on Surfers Paradise Boulevard when they became involved in an altercation with another group of men. A fight broke out between the groups near Hanlan Street, which resulted in a 19-year-old man being transported by QAS to the Gold Coast Hospital with facial injuries. This incident is not related to schoolies celebrations.
Serious traffic crash, Southport: Police are investigating a two vehicle crash on the Gold Coast Highway this morning that has resulted in serious injuries to a 25-year-old woman. It is believed one vehicle was travelling north around 5.55am when it has collided with an eastbound car at the intersection with Nind Street. Initial investigations suggest the northbound car went through the intersection against a red signal before colliding with the second car and crashing into a power pole. The driver of the northbound car was uninjured and the female passenger received serious injuries to her arm. The male driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle received head injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Drugs charges, Tully: Police have charged two men with drug offences after it’s alleged police intercepted a vehicle in Cardwell early this morning. Police allege a quantity of cocaine and methamphetamine was located in the vehicle along with an amount of money. A 28-year-old man from Byfield has been charged with possessing dangerous drugs and possess a knife in a public place. A 35-year-old man from Brinsmead has been charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possess anything used in the commission of a crime. The two men are due to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court today.
Assault charges, Cairns: Police have issued a Notice to Appear to a 24-year-old man allegedly involved in an assault at a Lake Street hotel on November 23. It’s alleged a 21-year-old man was struck in the face with a drinking glass. The 21-year-old sustained lacerations to his face and was treated at the Cairns Base Hospital
