Afternoon Round-up Second Edition
Dangerous operation causing death, Highfield (near Toowoomba): Police today issued the 18-year-old driver involved in a fatal crash at Highfield on May 2 with a Notice to Appear for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Shortly before 10pm that evening a sedan allegedly containing seven male teenagers collided with an on-coming car, driven by a 58-year-old man, on the New England Highway north of Toowoomba. Tragically, three teenagers, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old died and five others were injured. The local man is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on December 9 charged with three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and one count of exceed the registered carrying capacity of a vehicle.
Appeal for witnesses, Mount Gravatt: Police are calling for anyone who may have information about a suspicious fire at the Mount Gravatt High School on November 11. Around 11.20pm multiple alarms were activated in the administration block and emergency services arrived a short time later. The fire was confined to the administration block and caused extensive damage to the first floor as well as smoke and water damage to the ground floor.
