Police seize large quantity of MDMA and cocaine on Gold Coast
Late today, detectives from the State Crime Operations Command Organised Crime Group intercepted a car on the Tugun bypass at Tugun on the Gold Coast. Police searched the car, containing one man, and allegedly uncovered the tablets (which are believed to be MDMA or ecstasy) and powder (believed to be cocaine).
Detective Superintendent Gayle Hogan of the Organised Crime Group said while the location of this many illicit drugs is a positive result for police, it is also disturbing given the timing.
“It is important to acknowledge the proactive investigation and good police work that contributed to this arrest, but we cannot ignore the timing and size of this seizure. In the past we have made similar seizures where quantities of dangerous drugs were bound for Schoolies. It is definitely a concern all of these drugs may have been headed for the same destination.
“This is certainly a large quantity of dangerous drugs and we estimate their value to be approximately $300,000,” Detective Superintendent Hogan said.
The man has been charged with one count of trafficking, three counts of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of property used in the commission of a crime. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
