Serious traffic crash, Townsville: Police are investigating a serious traffic crash at Townsville this morning that left a 27-year-old local man hospitalized with serious injuries. Around 6.45 a car being driven by a 22-year-old Townsville man collided with a parked utility on Banfield Drive. The driver sustained minor injuries however his male passenger sustained serious head injuries and was transported to Townsville Base Hospital for treatment. Traffic incident, Deagon: A police officer was lucky to escape injury after he was forced to jump onto the roof of his police vehicle in an attempt to avoid a car during a traffic crash at Deagon this morning. Around 8.30am the officer was performing static traffic enforcement duties off the roadway, left hand side of the northbound lanes, Gateway Motorway when a northbound car allegedly lost control, crossing the white outer boundary line and traveling over to the stationary marked police vehicle colliding with the driver’s door. The male senior constable, who was standing next to the door, leapt onto the roof of his vehicle to avoid the on-coming car. No one was injured during the incident. A 24-year-old Sandgate man was charged with drink driving, after he allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration of .111 per cent and driving without due care and attention. He is due to appear in court at a later date.
Drug arrest, Broadbeach Waters: Police have charged a 21-year-old Broadbeach Waters man with possessing dangerous drugs after officers executed a warrant at a Broadbeach Waters address yesterday afternoon and allegedly located a quantity of cocaine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine and amphetamines. The man been charged with three counts of possession of a dangerous drug and is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 11. Police investigations are continuing.
Fatal crash, Stanthorpe: About 9.20am today police were notified of a two vehicle fatal crash at Stanthorpe. From the initial inquiries it appears a sedan turning onto the New England Highway from Whiskey Gully Road has proceeded into the path of an oncoming utility. The driver of the sedan, an 87-year-old Stanthorpe man, was trapped in the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, an 84-year-old Stanthorpe woman, sustained injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where she is in a serious condition. The driver of the utility, a 63-year-old Kingston man suffered shock and chest injuries and was taken to the Stanthorpe Hospital. Police investigations are continuing.
