Fatal crash, Glasshouse Mountains: Witnesses are sought after a male pedestrian in his 20s was killed last night on the Bruce Highway at the Glasshouse Mountains. Preliminary investigations indicate the man had entered onto the northbound lanes near the Beerburrum exit when he was hit by a vehicle around 8pm. He died at the scene. The male driver of the vehicle was not injured however he was taken to hospital for shock. The highway was closed with diversions in place to allow for Forensic Crash Unit officers to commence their investigations. The highway was reopened around 12.18am. Investigations are continuing.
Double fatal, Lakeland Downs: Two passengers died when the 4WD they were travelling in rolled yesterday afternoon. The rollover occurred around 1.30pm on the Mulligan Highway approximately 3.5kms east of Lakeland Downs. The passengers, a 75-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver was taken to the Cooktown Base Hospital for treatment to minor injuries before being released. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
Sudden death, Bungalow: An investigation has commenced into the cause of a 47-year-old man’s death at Bungalow last night. The man was located on Morehead Street around 8.30pm. He was taken to the Cairns Base Hospital but he died a short time later. A crime scene has been established in the vicinity of Morehead, Aumuller and Lazarus streets. At this stage the man’s death is being treated as suspicious and anyone with any information which could assist investigations is asked to contact police.

Attempted murder charge, Zillmere: A 27-year-old man will front the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court today charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a 41-year-old man in the back last night. It is alleged the older man was stabbed after he tried to intervene in a disturbance between the 27-year-old and a woman on Church Street, Zillmere around 7.45pm. The 41-year-old was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. The 27-year-old was arrested at the scene and taken to the Pine Rivers Watch House and charged with attempted murder.
Serious assault on police officer, Redbank Plains: A female Constable was spat on last night allegedly by a woman who was arrested for public nuisance. Police attended Henty Drive at Redbank Plains around 8pm in relation to a disturbance and arrested a 22-year-old woman. It is alleged the woman spat on the officer’s face while the officer was securing her in the rear of a police vehicle. The woman was charged with serious assault and public nuisance and will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
Serious crash, Bundamba: A 29-year-old woman is in a critical condition after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a power pole and burst into flames on Braeside Road at Bundamba this morning. Police attended the scene and located the woman and her 19-year-old male passenger lying outside the vehicle with head injuries. It appears the woman was able to free herself from the vehicle however the man had assistance from nearby residents. Both were taken to the Ipswich General Hospital before the woman was transferred to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition. Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
Armed robbery, Edmonton: A service station at Edmonton was robbed last night by a man armed with a knife. The man entered the service station on the Old Bruce Highway around 12.15am, walked behind the counter and demanded cash and cigarettes from the operator. The operator complied and the man left the service station and was last seen heading north. He is described as approximately 180cm tall with an athletic build and had a shirt covering his face.
Armed robbery, Newtown: Investigations are continuing into an armed robbery at a local convenience store at Newtown yesterday. Around 5pm a man entered the business at the intersection of Russell and Clairmont Streets, took a drink from the fridge and then went to the counter. When the attendant told him the price, the offender grabbed the attendant’s shirt and produced a knife. The attendant managed to pull back and he then produced a piece of metal pipe from behind the counter. The offender grabbed the drink and fled the store. He is described as being Caucasian, in his mid to late 20s, between 170-175cm tall with a slim build and short dark hair.
Bag snatch, Coorparoo: A woman had her bag snatched while walking along Old Cleveland Road at Coorparoo last night. The woman told police she was approached from behind by a man around 11.55pm who grabbed her handbag off her shoulder and ran away. She was not injured in the incident. The man is described as being Caucasian with a large build, short spiky fair hair and was wearing a white t-shirt and knee-length shorts.
