Fatal crash, Emu Creek (near Bowen): A woman believed to in her 20s is dead following a single vehicle roll over at Emu Creek, about 20km south of Bowen in north Queensland. Police attended a property adjacent to the Bruce Highway around 3.30pm yesterday after the caretaker told police he had located a vehicle on its roof submerged in a water-filled quarry. The vehicle was removed from the water and the woman was located deceased in the driver’s seat. Preliminary investigations indicate the crash may have occurred on February 4 when the woman, who was the sole occupant, was travelling north on the highway. It appears she lost control of the vehicle and travelled off the road, through a fence and rolled a number of times before coming to a rest in the quarry. The woman is still to be formally identified. Investigations are continuing.
Boy dies in flood waters, Junction View (near Toowoomba): A 14-year-old boy has been located deceased after the vehicle he was travelling in was swept away in flood waters at Junction View, south of Toowoomba, last night. Police received a Triple 0 call around 8.20pm advising that a car containing three people had been washed away while trying to cross the flooded Black Duck Creek Road. All three managed to get out of the vehicle however only two of them managed to reach safety, with the boy being swept away in the swollen creek. A search involving police and emergency services was carried out and the body of the boy was located downstream about 11.45pm. His body was later retrieved. Police are urging motorists not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways following heavy downpours overnight.
Suspicious fire, Carrara: A convenience store at Carrara is believed to have been deliberately set alight last night. Police were advised by QFRS around 8pm the Boonoroo General Store on the corner of Hickey Way and Michelmore Road was on fire. The QFRS managed to extinguish the blaze. There was no structural damage however there was significant smoke damage. Preliminary investigations indicate the fire is suspicious. The scene was guarded overnight and investigations will continue today. Armed robbery, Labrador: Three men robbed a convenience store at the intersection of Olsen Avenue and Central Street at Labrador yesterday. Two of the men entered the store shortly before 8pm and one produced a handgun from under his clothing, using it to threaten the store attendant. The second man pushed the store attendant and a customer to the ground and removed a sum of cash from the safe. The third man remained near the front entrance during the incident. The three men were last seen running from the store in an easterly direction. They are described as being of Caucasian appearance and slim build and were wearing black clothing. The man with the firearm had short, light brown hair and was wearing sunglasses and a grey cap. Armed robbery, Elanora: A woman was robbed at knifepoint while she withdrew cash from an ATM on the Gold Coast last night. The woman was waiting for her cash to dispense from an ATM at The Pines Shopping Centre at Elanora about 7.30pm when she was approached by two men. They threatened her with a knife and told her to leave the area, which she did. They then retrieved her cash from the ATM and left the scene on foot. Both are described as being of Caucasian appearance and about 170cm tall. The man with the knife appeared to be in his late 30s with an average build, short hair and was unshaven and was wearing a light-coloured t-shirt and board shorts. The second offender was about 25 years old with a slim build. He was wearing a white hooded jumper and dark jeans. Non-suspicious house fire, Condamine (near Miles): Police and fire investigators are treating a blaze that destroyed a home at Condamine, 25km south of Miles, last night as non-suspicious. Authorities were alerted to the fire about 10pm when the two residents returned home after being out for the evening. The lowset home is located on Paradise Road and there was no one in the residence at the time of the fire.
