Major Incident Management Training, Southern Region
Exercise Erebus, a multi-agency major incident exercise will be conducted in the Southern Region during February and March.
The exercise will use both desktop and discussion formats and has been designed in a transportable layout to be taken to six key locations across the region.
The exercise will involve members of the Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service and the Queensland Ambulance Service, Emergency Management Queensland, Department of Transport and Main Roads and local government.
Chief Superintendent Tony Wright, Operations Coordinator, Southern Region said the training exercises will allow the Queensland Police Service and other agencies to practice their response and to fine tune their preparedness to major events and incidents.
“Exercise Erebus will exercise the response capabilities of each agency and the coordination between emergency services during a major incident, such as a natural disaster.
“The incident we are practicing for could be a natural disaster such as a flood or it could be a criminal act.”
The exercise is designed to enhance communication and coordination between agencies and will continue to enhance the response provided to local communities.
The exercise will be conducted at Toowoomba, Ipswich, Goondiwindi, Dalby, Charleville, and Roma.
Media are welcome to attend the first exercise which will be conducted at Toowoomba. It is anticipated that further media opportunities will be available with future training at various locations within the Southern Region.
