Update: serious traffic crash, Bundaberg: The 30-year-old man from Branyan who was involved in a single motorcycle crash on the Bundaberg Ring Road last night died in hospital just before 3am. The Forensic Crash Unit will continue investigations.

Serious traffic crash, Mt Cotton: A 17-year-old man was transported to hospital last night in a critical condition after a single vehicle traffic crash on Mt Cotton Road, at the intersection with West Mt Cotton Road. Just before 8pm police received several Triple-0 calls relating to a vehicle on fire with a person trapped inside. Police on the scene attempted to subdue the fire with fire extinguishers as did members of the public. Queensland Fire and Rescue Service attended and put the fire out. Initial information suggests the vehicle was travelling on the incorrect side of West Mt Cotton Road before crossing Mt Cotton Road, mounting a steep embankment, striking several trees and catching fire. The 17-year-old was extracted from the vehicle and transported under police escort to the Royal Brisbane Hospital. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Armed robbery, Goondiwindi: Two men entered the service station on Boundary Road around 1.20 this morning armed with a large screwdriver. The men stole the cash register tray and cigarettes. The console operator was assaulted by the offenders and was treated for facial injuries by QAS at the scene. The offenders left the store and into a waiting vehicle. The white two-door vehicle was last seen travelling east on Boundary road towards the Cunningham Highway. The first man is described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance and was wearing a black hooded jumper with a blue and white scarf around his face. The second offender is described as being Aborginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance and was wearing a white jacket with a white scarf wrapped around his face.

Unarmed robbery, Cairns: Police are investigating the unarmed robbery to a grocery store on Mulgrave Road yesterday morning. Around 8.50am a man entered business acting suspiciously before a store attendant noticed the register open and a short time later observed money missing. The attendant attempted to keep the man in the store and called police. The man allegedly threatened the store attendant before leaving without further incident. The man is described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island in appearance, aged in his late teens/early 20s with a skinny build. He has brown curly near shoulder length hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a long sleeved hooded jumper with white, pink and blue colouring, light coloured knee length pants and sneakers. He was also wearing a grey baseball cap.

Yacht ran aground, Ackers Shoal: Police assisted the Federal maritime search agency in co-ordinating the search for a yacht that had run aground on Ackers Shoal, 40Nm north east of Thursday Island last night. The yacht was on its final leg of world circumnavigation, when the auto pilot failure led to yacht running aground on Ackers reef. The one person onboard made a mayday call. AUSSAR tasked a fixed wing aircraft to the scene and a helicopter landed on a nearby Island. Two dinghy’s from the Island made their way to Ackers Shoal and conveyed the person on board back to the Island before the rescue 701 helicopter transported the 71-year-old man to Thursday Island around 9.30pm.
