Day two of Gold Coast Schoolies 2010
Official celebrations started for students last night when thousands of school leavers congregated around Surfers Paradise to enjoy the entertainment and facilities provided.Police were generally pleased with the behaviour of schoolies overall with only a small number of the large crowd coming to the attention of police.
Police arrested 26 schoolies on 28 offences with the majority being for drunk and public nuisance offences. There were four schoolies arrested for minor drug offences relating to allegedly cannabis and two ecstasy tablets.
Of the schoolies arrested overnight there were 24 males and two females.
Also overnight there were 112 schoolies issued with infringement notices for drinking in a public place.
Police would remind all schoolies that officers will be actively detecting these types of offences which can result in on the spot fines.
There were 44 people arrested on 47 charges which were not schoolies related and were mainly for public nuisance and other good order offences along with 49 non-schoolies receiving infringement notices for drinking in a public
